Daily Devotional: Psalms 79:1-7
Ps 79:1-7
1 O God, the nations have invaded Thine inheritance; They have defiled Thy holy temple; They have laid Jerusalem in ruins. 2 They have given the dead bodies of Thy servants for food to the birds of the heavens, The flesh of Thy godly ones to the beasts of the earth. 3 They have poured out their blood like water round about Jerusalem; And there was no one to bury them. 4 We have become a reproach to our neighbors, A scoffing and derision to those around us. 5 How long, O LORD? Wilt Thou be angry forever? Will Thy jealousy burn like fire? 6 Pour out Thy wrath upon the nations which do not know Thee And upon the kingdoms which do not call upon Thy name. 7 For they have devoured Jacob And laid waste his habitation.
Rev 19:5-7
5 And a voice came from the throne, saying, "Give praise to our God, all you His bond-servants, you who fear Him, the small and the great." 6 And I heard, as it were, the voice of a great multitude and as the sound of many waters and as the sound of mighty peals of thunder, saying, "Hallelujah! For the Lord our God, the Almighty, reigns.
We may not see the plan of God or how he is working in our lives and all around us but that does not mean he is not in control. We mistakenly measure God by our limited standards and by our finite strength and wisdom. He is not limited by the things that limit us and he knows what has been, what is and what will be. He holds the future in his hand and there is no one who can thwart his plan.
We are bound to this world and so we see the chaos and wickedness all around us and begin to doubt or wonder if God is really in charge. How can a good God who is love, allow all of the suffering and hatred? But it is not God who brought all of this but rather it is from Satan. The devil is the father of all lies. He is the one who introduced hatred, prejudice and even murder. These things happen when we as mankind choose to follow him instead of God. The wisdom from above is first pure and then peace-loving, considerate, full of mercy and is always impartial.
Heavenly Father please bring peace to our land. Open the eyes of our leaders so they will look to you and to your word for wisdom. We thank you for the many freedoms we enjoy and we ask that you continue these for future generations so our children and theirs can worship you freely. Be with your people wherever they are in this world and help each one to be faithful to you, even in the face of persecution. Help me, in my small part of the world, to let my light shine and in so doing to bring glory to you. As I share your love, use me to lead some lost soul to Jesus. Help me keep my eyes on Jesus. I humbly pray in his holy name.
