Daily Devotional: Psalms 83:1-8
Ps 83:1-8
1 O God, do not keep silent; be not quiet, O God, be not still. 2 See how your enemies are astir, how your foes rear their heads. 3 With cunning they conspire against your people; they plot against those you cherish. 4 "Come," they say, "let us destroy them as a nation, that the name of Israel be remembered no more." 5 With one mind they plot together; they form an alliance against you--6 the tents of Edom and the Ishmaelites, of Moab and the Hagrites, 7 Gebal, Ammon and Amalek, Philistia, with the people of Tyre. 8 Even Assyria has joined them to lend strength to the descendants of Lot. Eph 6:10-12
10 Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. 11 Put on the full armor of God so that you can take your stand against the devil's schemes. 12 For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.
Just as Israel was in a battle against her enemies, so we today are in war with the enemies of God. We do not face the armies of nations but rather we face the daily battles against the forces of evil. Ours is a spiritual battle and we must always be vigilant against the terrorist of Satan. Satan is a master of disguise and will not come dressed in enemy uniforms or with a red suit, horns and a pitchfork.
The truth is that many of our temptations come from those around us at work or even at home. James says they come from our own desires, our attitude towards life and those around us or even from our own ego. We live in a society that says the world owes us and that we are not responsible for our own actions.
Evil is touted as good, wicked people are held up as heroes and this world is made to be our god. Animals are esteemed ahead of humans; the earth is sacred but then we are told that nothing is absolute so morality is up to each of us.
We must study God’s word and learn his principles for our lives or we will lose the battle in eternity. He alone determines what is moral and immoral. He is the Lord God and there is none other to be worshipped besides him. Murder is sin (babies or the elderly or any between) and causing discord is abominable to our God.
Heavenly Father I am so thankful for your love and for the revelation of your word to all mankind. You alone are reverend and you alone are worthy of praise. Fill me with awe and humility when I consider your holy name. Use me to bring peace on earth, peace that only comes through Jesus Christ and his sacrifice. Give me a spirit of love and kindness that shows Jesus to everyone around me. Help me keep my eyes on Jesus and heaven above. I pray in his holy name as my Lord.
