Daily Devotional: Psalms 84:9-12
Ps 84:9-12
9 Look upon our shield, O God; look with favor on your anointed one. 10 Better is one day in your courts than a thousand elsewhere; I would rather be a doorkeeper in the house of my God than dwell in the tents of the wicked. 11 For the LORD God is a sun and shield; the LORD bestows favor and honor; no good thing does he withhold from those whose walk is blameless. 12 O LORD Almighty, blessed is the man who trusts in you.
Rom 16:25-27
25 Now to him who is able to establish you by my gospel and the proclamation of Jesus Christ, according to the revelation of the mystery hidden for long ages past, 26 but now revealed and made known through the prophetic writings by the command of the eternal God, so that all nations might believe and obey him- 27 to the only wise God be glory forever through Jesus Christ! Amen.
Since the pandemic began in this country, I have heard several proclaim that this is the work of God and then proceed to give the reason God is doing it or at least allowing it to happen. Some have said it is punishment for the sins of our nation while others have said it is a test or maybe it is discipline. The truth is that we do not know what God has done or has allowed or why he does it.
We need to be careful to not assign motives to God when he has not told us what or why something is happening. Read the book of Job. His friends were sure of what was happening to Job and why it was taking place – but they were wrong on both counts. Job confessed that he did not know why and depended on God to give him the answers. God never told him why and so he never really knew.
It never does us harm as an individual or as a nation to consider our way of life in light of the word of God. We need to see our faults and then try to correct them and be conformed to his will. What we do know for sure is that some things are beyond the control of us as God’s creation. We are told that Jesus made all things and that by his word he sustain all things, even today. Nothing happens in heaven or earth that is not under his control. So if we learn nothing else, we must realize that God alone is majestic, reverend, wise and all powerful. He is GOD!
Heavenly Father I do pray that you will give wisdom to the leaders in each field on earth that the Covid virus can be brought under control. I ask you to remove it from us if it is your will. But in it all, give me greater faith as I see your power and your majesty being demonstrated once again to all of mankind. No matter what happens on earth, increase my faith and keep me from being overly concerned or worried but to just trust you. Give us leaders who will look to you for wisdom and will seek to do your will in their lives. I pray in the name of Jesus my Lord.
