Daily Devotional: Psalms 85:8-13
Ps 85:8-13
8 I will listen to what God the LORD will say; he promises peace to his people, his saints--but let them not return to folly. 9 Surely his salvation is near those who fear him, that his glory may dwell in our land. 10 Love and faithfulness meet together; righteousness and peace kiss each other. 11 Faithfulness springs forth from the earth, and righteousness looks down from heaven. 12 The LORD will indeed give what is good, and our land will yield its harvest. 13 Righteousness goes before him and prepares the way for his steps.
Phil 4:4-7
4 Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice! 5 Let your gentleness be evident to all. The Lord is near. 6 Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. 7 And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. 8 Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable-if anything is excellent or praiseworthy-think about such things. 9 Whatever you have learned or received or heard from me or seen in me-put it into practice. And the God of peace will be with you.
James 3:17-18
17 But the wisdom that comes from heaven is first of all pure; then peace-loving, considerate, submissive, full of mercy and good fruit, impartial and sincere. 18 Peacemakers who sow in peace raise a harvest of righteousness.
One of the things that is listed as an abomination to the Lord is those who sow discord among brethren. Jesus is the Prince of Peace. We are to make every effort to maintain the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace. Our Lord loves peace.
But the only way for us to be at peace with the Lord is for us to trust him and seek to do his will. Any time two or more people are living in the will of God, they will be at peace with each other. It is only when we put our will ahead of his that we will not have peace. Being at peace with God and with others will give us that inner peace with ourselves that all of mankind is so desperately seeking.
Heavenly Father, God of peace and giver of peace, I am thankful that you have made it possible for me to be at peace with you. Help me make every effort to be at peace with others and to never cause strife and discord. I ask you to be with those who are sick, those who have had surgery or are facing it now. Give your help to those taking treatments for cancer and other diseases. I know you made us and you can heal so I ask you to give your healing where it is in your will. May they put their trust in you. I pray in the name of Jesus, the Great Physician.
