Daily Devotional: Psalms 86:6-11
Ps 86:6-11
6 Hear my prayer, O LORD; listen to my cry for mercy. 7 In the day of my trouble I will call to you, for you will answer me. 8 Among the gods there is none like you, O Lord; no deeds can compare with yours. 9 All the nations you have made will come and worship before you, O Lord; they will bring glory to your name. 10 For you are great and do marvelous deeds; you alone are God. 11 Teach me your way, O LORD, and I will walk in your truth; give me an undivided heart, that I may fear your name.
1 Thess 4:9-12
9 Now about brotherly love we do not need to write to you, for you yourselves have been taught by God to love each other. 10 And in fact, you do love all the brothers throughout Macedonia. Yet we urge you, brothers, to do so more and more. 11 Make it your ambition to lead a quiet life, to mind your own business and to work with your hands, just as we told you, 12 so that your daily life may win the respect of outsiders and so that you will not be dependent on anybody.
No matter what happens to us and to the world around us, we can trust God to take care of us. We live in uncertain times when it seems all that we know as normal has been turned upside down. The way we conduct business, our visit to the doctor’s office or even a trip to the post office is not the same. The lines are spaced and many people are wearing masks. Our gatherings of any kind are either limited or banned all together. So what is next? What is going to happen?
We can be careful and we can use good judgment about what we do, where we go and how we conduct ourselves. The virus is real. I have friends who have had it and have thankfully recovered but I know of others who have died from it. While each of us can protect ourselves and those around us to some extent, none of us will stop it by ourselves or even make a dent in the progression of it.
But God can control or even stop the virus with just a word. He has controlled many other pandemics, floods, hurricanes, locusts swarms and dust storms. He knows what is best and he always controls what the evil one is allowed to do. He has promised to use all things for the good of those who love him and who are called according to his purpose. So, what, me worry? Never! My trust is in God!
Heavenly Father I am so thankful for your love for me and for your continued protection over me and over my family. While I cannot understand or explain all that happens around me, I know you are in control and will work things for my good. Help me never forget that the ultimate good for me is not on this earth but is the next world, the world to come that is in your presence and is eternal. Use me to show your glory in all things. I pray in the name of Jesus my Lord.
