Daily Devotional: Psalms 89:9-18
Ps 89:9-18
9 You rule over the surging sea; when its waves mount up, you still them. 10 You crushed Rahab like one of the slain; with your strong arm you scattered your enemies. 11 The heavens are yours, and yours also the earth; you founded the world and all that is in it. 12 You created the north and the south; Tabor and Hermon sing for joy at your name. 13 Your arm is endued with power; your hand is strong, your right hand exalted. 14 Righteousness and justice are the foundation of your throne; love and faithfulness go before you. 15 Blessed are those who have learned to acclaim you, who walk in the light of your presence, O LORD. 16 They rejoice in your name all day long; they exult in your righteousness. 17 For you are their glory and strength, and by your favor you exalt our horn. 18 Indeed, our shield belongs to the LORD, our king to the Holy one of Israel.
Rom 1:17-20
17 For in the gospel a righteousness from God is revealed, a righteousness that is by faith from first to last, just as it is written: "The righteous will live by faith." 18 The wrath of God is being revealed from heaven against all the godlessness and wickedness of men who suppress the truth by their wickedness, 19 since what may be known about God is plain to them, because God has made it plain to them. 20 For since the creation of the world God's invisible qualities-his eternal power and divine nature-have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that men are without excuse.
Having been raised in the mid twentieth century, it is appalling to see all of the evil and the disregard for God and his word around us. In my youth it was the norm for all schools and youth activities to suspend practice and games each Wednesday so kids could attend Bible study and it was unheard of to have any youth activity on Sunday. Divorce was only for those in Hollywood and abortion was unthinkable. But all of this has changed as we have “advanced” in society.
But God has not changed. He is the same God who destroyed the world with a flood because everyone was evil. He is the God who witnessed the evils of the Roman empire as they killed his only Son. But the risen one will judge all mankind in that final day when all that exists is burned and replaced with a new earth.
Heavenly Father it is such a joy to know that you are the same; yesterday, today and forever. Your love and your mercy are enduring but your hatred of sin does not change with our society either. Help me not drift in my faith and in my desire to be like Jesus. Help me keep my eyes on him and on the things above so I will put you and your righteousness ahead of all else. Be with your nation in this election year and give us wise leaders. I pray in the name of Jesus my King.
