Daily Devotional: Psalms 89:30-37
Ps 89:30-37
30 "If his sons forsake my law and do not follow my statutes, 31 if they violate my decrees and fail to keep my commands, 32 I will punish their sin with the rod, their iniquity with flogging; 33 but I will not take my love from him, nor will I ever betray my faithfulness. 34 I will not violate my covenant or alter what my lips have uttered. 35 Once for all, I have sworn by my holiness--and I will not lie to David--36 that his line will continue forever and his throne endure before me like the sun; 37 it will be established forever like the moon, the faithful witness in the sky." Selah
Heb 6:16-18
16 Men swear by someone greater than themselves, and the oath confirms what is said and puts an end to all argument. 17 Because God wanted to make the unchanging nature of his purpose very clear to the heirs of what was promised, he confirmed it with an oath. 18 God did this so that, by two unchangeable things in which it is impossible for God to lie, we who have fled to take hold of the hope offered to us may be greatly encouraged.
God’s word to Abraham was sure and his promises were fulfilled. He gave the land of Canaan to his descendants and he made a great nation of his seed. The last and greatest promise was to bless all nations through the Messiah. Jesus is the Messiah and in him all people of all nations can have the blessings of God.
God’s word to David was sure and his promise has been fulfilled. He promised to have one of the sons of David sit on his throne – the throne of God’s people – forever. That is fulfilled in the reign of Jesus over his people – the kingdom of God which is his church. Our citizenship is in heaven and not on this earth.
God’s word to us is sure and his promises will never fail. No matter who seems to be in control and no matter what virus or disease ravages the land, God is still in control and we can trust him to do what is best for us and to take care of us. He said he would never leave us or forsake us and he cannot lie! When we learn to turn loose and trust him, we will see his blessings in our lives and have his peace.
Heavenly Father I am so thankful for all you do for me and all you have given me over the years. You have blessed me in more ways than I can count or know. Most of all, I thank you for your love for me and for the provision you have made for me to have my sins forgiven and be a part of your family. It seems that everything around me is in a turmoil and there is so much hatred and evil, so give me special strength to trust you and to know your peace in my heart. Help me show love, and only love, to everyone around me. Help me use all you have given me to honor you and to bring glory to your holy name. I humbly pray in the name of Jesus.
