Daily Devotional: Psalms 89:46-52
Ps 89:46-52
46 How long, O LORD? Will you hide yourself forever? How long will your wrath burn like fire? 47 Remember how fleeting is my life. For what futility you have created all men! 48 What man can live and not see death, or save himself from the power of the grave? Selah 49 O Lord, where is your former great love, which in your faithfulness you swore to David? 50 Remember, Lord, how your servant has been mocked, how I bear in my heart the taunts of all the nations, 51 the taunts with which your enemies have mocked, O LORD, with which they have mocked every step of your anointed one. 52 Praise be to the LORD forever! Amen and Amen.
James 1:12
12 Blessed is the man who perseveres under trial, because when he has stood the test, he will receive the crown of life that God has promised to those who love him.
It is easy to think that God is with us when things are going well and problems seem to be only for others. But life is real and problems do come. Some of them are big and some are just minor irritations but we all face problems every day of our lives. But just because we face an issue does not mean God has left us.
In these times of uncertainty and turmoil it is easy to think we have been left on our own to fend for ourselves. But God is with his children and he will never leave us or forsake us. However, we must remember that just because he is near does not mean we will not face problems. It is times of problems that our faith is tested and made to grow stronger. These trials serve as training and build character.
The writer of the book of Hebrews says that all of God’s children face discipline because as our Father, he loves us and wants the best for us. Discipline is not just to punish but is training and getting us ready for greater things in his service. We all must face various tests in our lives but we must always trust God in them. Faith is the victory that overcomes the world and that is our goal; to overcome this world and to be ready for the one to come. Paul says we are to not worry about anything because the Lord is near. We must walk hand in hand with Jesus!
Heavenly Father it is with great joy that I trust you in the midst of trials and in the face of all kinds of problems. Keep me from worry and despair as you strengthen my faith on a daily basis. Help me open my heart to the work of your Spirit in my life so I will reflect Jesus to others around me. Forgive me when I fail. Give me wisdom to know what is really important and what is not so I will use my energy on things that do matter. Be with our nation in the elections this year and give us leaders who will honor you and follow your wisdom. I pray in Jesus name.
