Daily Devotional: Psalms 90:13-17
Ps 90:13-17
13 Relent, O LORD! How long will it be? Have compassion on your servants. 14 Satisfy us in the morning with your unfailing love, that we may sing for joy and be glad all our days. 15 Make us glad for as many days as you have afflicted us, for as many years as we have seen trouble. 16 May your deeds be shown to your servants, your splendor to their children. 17 May the favor of the Lord our God rest upon us; establish the work of our hands for us--yes, establish the work of our hands.
1 John 3:1-3
1 How great is the love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God! And that is what we are! The reason the world does not know us is that it did not know him. 2 Dear friends, now we are children of God, and what we will be has not yet been made known. But we know that when he appears, we shall be like him, for we shall see him as he is. 3 Everyone who has this hope in him purifies himself, just as he is pure.
As we study the word of God and understand his revelation to us, we begin to see that the entire picture of the Bible is about God and what happens to those who rebel against him. It seems that even before this world began there was a battle in heaven when Satan rebelled against God and was cast out, along with the angels who followed him. The devil then extended this battle to include our world and all of us who live here when he tempted Eve and she ate the forbidden fruit.
Satan has used every lie and every form of deception to convince us that it is ok for us to do things our way and to ignore and defy God and his will. But he is the father of lies and only wants us to follow him because of his enmity with God. He does not care about us or the fact that he is leading us to eternal punishment away from the presence of God. He is the source of all evil in our world.
But God loves us and he has already defeated Satan by the resurrection of Jesus from the grave. Sin and death hold no power over us when we are in Jesus Christ because we too will live again, forever and ever. In Christ we are counted as being righteous so that the deserved penalty for sin does not apply to us any longer.
Heavenly Father it is such a blessing to go to bed at night and to awake to a new day with the knowledge that all my sins are forgiven and that in Jesus I have the promise of eternal life. No matter what I face today, you are with me and you will protect me from the evil one. Give me a pure heart and a determined spirit to be all you want me to become today. Help me show your love to others and to lead someone to Jesus. Bless our nation and our leaders so that we can live peaceful and quiet lives in honor to your name. I pray in the name of Jesus.
