Daily Devotional: Psalms 92:9-15
Ps 92:9-15
9 For surely your enemies, O LORD, surely your enemies will perish; all evildoers will be scattered. 10 You have exalted my horn like that of a wild ox; fine oils have been poured upon me. 11 My eyes have seen the defeat of my adversaries; my ears have heard the rout of my wicked foes. 12 The righteous will flourish like a palm tree, they will grow like a cedar of Lebanon; 13 planted in the house of the LORD, they will flourish in the courts of our God. 14 They will still bear fruit in old age, they will stay fresh and green, 15 proclaiming, "The LORD is upright; he is my Rock, and there is no wickedness in him."
1 Peter 1:8-9
8 Though you have not seen him, you love him; and even though you do not see him now, you believe in him and are filled with an inexpressible and glorious joy, 9 for you are receiving the goal of your faith, the salvation of your souls.
I got up this morning and when I looked in the mirror, I am here – alive, moving and breathing. I am a real person who thinks (sometimes), speaks, listens and who can make choices of what I will do or not do today. Is my being a quirk or some fate of an accident or is there purpose for my existence? Am I just another animal in the ecosystem of this world or does my life have meaning as I interact with other humans around me? Is there life beyond what I see and know?
God is the answer to all of this. His word reveals to us the plan he has for our lives and explains why we are here and how we got here. We spring from the mind of God who created all things and set it all in order. The ecosystem and “mother nature” and all the other terms are just expressions of the mind of God and his plan for this earth. The galaxies reveal his greatness and the wellbeing of a bird shows his love for his creation. The beautiful flowers show his inherent beauty.
But his plan for us is not limited to this earth or this life. In his wisdom he has made a way for us to be able to live beyond this life and to be with him in his eternal glory with none of the problems of this world. Our sin destroyed our fellowship with God but by the sacrifice of Jesus we can be forgiven and once again reunited with him – and this time forever, time without end.
Heavenly Father what a blessing to know you and to know Jesus Christ as my Lord and as my Savior! Worthy is the Lamb that was slain for my sin! Every good thing you have given me and every joy in my life is by your grace because all I deserve from you is punishment and death. Help me let this sink into my mind so I will live for you in every way I can and in so doing, to honor your holy name. Use me to serve you as I serve others around me. Be with those who are taking treatments for cancer and other diseases. I humbly pray in the name of Jesus my Lord.
