Daily Devotional: Psalms 95:1-5
Ps 95:1-5
Come, let us sing for joy to the LORD; let us shout aloud to the Rock of our salvation. 2 Let us come before him with thanksgiving and extol him with music and song. 3 For the LORD is the great God, the great King above all gods. 4 In his hand are the depths of the earth, and the mountain peaks belong to him. 5 The sea is his, for he made it, and his hands formed the dry land.
Eph 1:2-4
2 Grace and peace to you from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ. 3 Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us in the heavenly realms with every spiritual blessing in Christ. 4 For he chose us in him before the creation of the world to be holy and blameless in his sight.
Do we celebrate with joy the salvation we have in Jesus Christ? Is our worship a time of praise and joy or do we feel that we are just going through the motions or some kind of ritual to do our duty? We are told to do all things in an orderly way but orderly does not mean (or even imply) that it is to be dry, dull and boring. We come together to celebrate the love of God shown to us in Jesus Christ.
The most solemn part of our worship service is when we take the communion and we remember the death, burial and the resurrection of Jesus on our behalf. We eat the bread and drink the cup with a serious attitude but even then, it should be a joyous occasion that remembers that Jesus has defeated Satan on our behalf and that we have been made free from the guilt of our sin. Praise the Lord!
Our singing is to be a celebration. Nothing lifts our spirits more than praise music that comes from our hearts. Paul says we are to not be drunk with wine but be filled with the Spirit of God. He is not advocating wild emotionalism but is saying that we are to let God fill our hearts with joy and let it overflow with songs that come from a genuine spirit of worship and praise. We are his chosen ones!
Our celebration worship is the result of hearts filled with thanksgiving for all God has done for us in Jesus Christ. We have more spiritual blessings in him than we can count or even know. What a joy to be with others who love God and are devoted to serving Jesus! What a privilege to be able to talk to God in prayer!
O Lord God, giver of life and all things, both present, past and in the future, it is indeed a privilege and joy to be in your family. Thank you for Jesus who gave his life for my sins and who is now interceding on my behalf in heaven. Thank you for the physical things you have given me to enjoy in this life but so much more for the spiritual blessings in Jesus Christ. Give me a heart of devotion to follow your will in every part of my life. Use me to help others and to share your gospel with those who are lost. Be with our nation. I pray in the name of Jesus my Lord.
