Daily Devotional: Psalms 96:1-6
Ps 96:1-6
1 Sing to the LORD a new song; sing to the LORD, all the earth. 2 Sing to the LORD, praise his name; proclaim his salvation day after day. 3 Declare his glory among the nations, his marvelous deeds among all peoples. 4 For great is the LORD and most worthy of praise; he is to be feared above all gods. 5 For all the gods of the nations are idols, but the LORD made the heavens. 6 Splendor and majesty are before him; strength and glory are in his sanctuary.
Eph 5:15-20
15 Be very careful, then, how you live-not as unwise but as wise, 16 making the most of every opportunity, because the days are evil. 17 Therefore do not be foolish but understand what the Lord's will is. 18 Do not get drunk on wine, which leads to debauchery. Instead, be filled with the Spirit. 19 Speak to one another with psalms, hymns and spiritual songs. Sing and make music in your heart to the Lord, 20 always giving thanks to God the Father for everything, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.
What a blessing we have to be able to worship the Lord and know he is the God who made us and all the world around us. We are his people and we reflect his glory in our lives. We are not perfect in ourselves but we have been made perfect by the blood of Jesus our Savior and our Lord. As we walk in his light, his blood continues to cleanse us from all sin. We praise him for his lovingkindness.
We live in a world that is filled with wickedness and we are surrounded by many who have no regard for God or his word. In this dark world we are to shine as the stars in the sky shine on a black night. We are to let our lights shine before others so they will see our good deeds and glorify our father in heaven. We do this when we allow the light of Jesus to be reflected in our attitudes and our actions.
As we let the Spirit of God live in us, we live without fear. Our lives are filled with hope, with joy and with the peace that is beyond understanding. We do not have to worry about what is happening around us because we know that most of it is beyond our control anyway, but it is always under the control of our Father.
Heavenly Father, what a joy to be your child and to know that my sins have been forgiven by the blood of Jesus when he died on the cross. Thank you for the joy you give me in his resurrection and the promise this gives to me. Help me live in such a way to be prepared to live with you in eternity when this life is over. Use me to help others and to try to make this world a better place. Give me wisdom to know your truth, to live it in my life and to teach it effectively to others. Help me remember that my thinking is fallible so I will not be judgmental toward those with whom I disagree. Forgive me when I fail. I pray in the name of Jesus.
