Daily Devotional: Psalms 99:1-9
Ps 99:1-9
1 The LORD reigns, let the nations tremble; he sits enthroned between the cherubim, let the earth shake. 2 Great is the LORD in Zion; he is exalted over all the nations. 3 Let them praise your great and awesome name--he is holy. 4 The King is mighty, he loves justice--you have established equity; in Jacob you have done what is just and right. 5 Exalt the LORD our God and worship at his footstool; he is holy. 6 Moses and Aaron were among his priests, Samuel was among those who called on his name; they called on the LORD and he answered them. 7 He spoke to them from the pillar of cloud; they kept his statutes and the decrees he gave them. 8 O LORD our God, you answered them; you were to Israel a forgiving God, though you punished their misdeeds. 9 Exalt the LORD our God and worship at his holy mountain, for the LORD our God is holy.
Rom 5:6-9
6 You see, at just the right time, when we were still powerless, Christ died for the ungodly. 7 Very rarely will anyone die for a righteous man, though for a good man someone might possibly dare to die. 8 But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us. 9 Since we have now been justified by his blood, how much more shall we be saved from God's wrath through him!
Can we as mortals, as humans, understand the majesty of God? Can we grasp the great love he has shown to us in his grace? We can say the words of praise and honor or we can talk of his love and mercy but with our propensity to sin and our limitations of humanity, these words never seem to reach fulfillment. We serve the only true God, a God who wants us to be with him in eternity and has made it possible for all who will accept his grace extended in the blood of Jesus Christ.
When we face trials in our lives and we want to fall back or quit in our walk with Jesus, we can press onward because we know that he is with us. We live in hope and not in fear. We rejoice in love which takes away all bitterness. We rid our minds of all worry and anxiety because we revel in thanksgiving. Jesus is our Savior and our sins are forgiven, never to be held against us again.
Heavenly Father it is with joy that I thank you and praise you for your mercy and your love. You have extended your grace to me in more ways than I can count or even know. Thank you for the peace of mind you give me in Jesus. Give me the faith and the strength to offer grace to those who have done me wrong. Remind me to not be judgmental but as one who is forgiven, to be compassionate and to be merciful to others. Be merciful to our nation and guide us away from all that is contrary to your will as we admit you are in control. In Jesus name I pray.
