Daily Devotional: Psalms 102:1-5
Ps 102:1-5
1 Hear my prayer, O LORD; let my cry for help come to you. 2 Do not hide your face from me when I am in distress. Turn your ear to me; when I call, answer me quickly. 3 For my days vanish like smoke; my bones burn like glowing embers. 4 My heart is blighted and withered like grass; I forget to eat my food. 5 Because of my loud groaning I am reduced to skin and bones.
Matt 6:5-8
5 "And when you pray, do not be like the hypocrites, for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and on the street corners to be seen by men. I tell you the truth, they have received their reward in full. 6 But when you pray, go into your room, close the door and pray to your Father, who is unseen. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you. 7 And when you pray, do not keep on babbling like pagans, for they think they will be heard because of their many words. 8 Do not be like them, for your Father knows what you need before you ask him.
When we get to the end of our rope and we feel there is no one who cares or who is concerned about us, we can know that Jesus wants to be our friend. If we turn to him in faith and we talk to him from a genuine heart, he will hear us. There may not be any booming thunder or flashes of lightening for us to hear or see but his answers will come to those who love him and who seek to live for him.
Prayer is talking to God. It is to communicate what is on our hearts to him, either to thank him for what he has done and given to us or to make requests for that which we feel we want or need. It may be that we pray for a moment or it may be for hours but the time is not what matters. Read the book of Job and his prayers as he poured out this heart to God and we see sincere and genuine prayer.
Peter looked at the waves and he prayed “Lord save me”. This was short but it was very sincere. He realized he needed the help of Jesus and he needed it right now! Nehemiah prayed a short prayer for the right words to say before he answered the king because he knew he needed the wisdom from above. We can pour out our hearts to God, wherever we are and whatever our circumstances.
Heavenly Father I am so thankful that you hear me when I talk to you. Give me patience to wait on your answer. Thank you for the many times you have guided me with your wisdom and have given me what I needed instead of what I thought was best. I have done so much in my life that is contrary to your will but because of your mercy and by your grace you have forgiven me through the sacrifice and blood of Jesus. Help me be as merciful and forgiving toward others as you are to me. Be with our country and our leaders. I pray in the name of Jesus.
