Daily Devotional: Psalms 102:18-22
Ps 102:18-22
18 Let this be written for a future generation, that a people not yet created may praise the LORD: 19 "The LORD looked down from his sanctuary on high, from heaven he viewed the earth, 20 to hear the groans of the prisoners and release those condemned to death." 21 So the name of the LORD will be declared in Zion and his praise in Jerusalem 22 when the peoples and the kingdoms assemble to worship the LORD.
1 Cor 11:23-26
23 For I received from the Lord what I also passed on to you: The Lord Jesus, on the night he was betrayed, took bread, 24 and when he had given thanks, he broke it and said, "This is my body, which is for you; do this in remembrance of me." 25 In the same way, after supper he took the cup, saying, "This cup is the new covenant in my blood; do this, whenever you drink it, in remembrance of me." 26 For whenever you eat this bread and drink this cup, you proclaim the Lord's death until he comes.
The Lord is ever with his people but we must be reminded of his faithfulness. He has done so much for us in more ways than we can know but we soon forget his blessings and take for granted his goodness. The Lord’s supper is designed to remind us of the great sacrifice of Jesus on our behalf. It reminds of us the pledge we took when we were baptized into Christ and took his name as our own. It is now Christ living in us and not we ourselves, doing our own will.
The Lord is filled with compassion and hears the cry of those who are distressed and those who are in need. He hears the prayer of those in prison or those who are accused of things they have never done. There is never anyone who is so lowly that Jesus does not feel compassion on them and there are none so wicked that his mercy cannot extend to them or his grace save them.
When the Spirit works in us, the result is that we will be filled with love, mercy and compassion. We will be forgiving and kind, never looking down on anyone but always willing to extend a hand to lift them up. The love of God will be made complete in us as we learn to accept it and share it abundantly.
Heavenly Father it is with joy and peace that I accept your love and forgiveness in Jesus Christ. Hallelujah! What a Savior! As I ponder your love for me and the great sacrifice of Jesus for my sin, I am filled with a sadness that brings tears to my eyes but at the same time I am filled with a joy that makes me want to shout. Thank you, Lord, for saving me! Lead me into the task you want me to accomplish and empower me to carry it through. Be with our nation in this election year and give us leaders who respect you and your word. I pray in the name of Jesus.
