Daily Devotional: Psalms 104:1-9
Ps 104:1-9
1 Praise the LORD, O my soul. O LORD my God, you are very great; you are clothed with splendor and majesty. 2 He wraps himself in light as with a garment; he stretches out the heavens like a tent 3 and lays the beams of his upper chambers on their waters. He makes the clouds his chariot and rides on the wings of the wind. 4 He makes winds his messengers, flames of fire his servants. 5 He set the earth on its foundations; it can never be moved. 6 You covered it with the deep as with a garment; the waters stood above the mountains. 7 But at your rebuke the waters fled, at the sound of your thunder they took to flight; 8 they flowed over the mountains, they went down into the valleys, to the place you assigned for them. 9 You set a boundary they cannot cross; never again will they cover the earth.
2 Peter 3:3-7
3 First of all, you must understand that in the last days scoffers will come, scoffing and following their own evil desires. 4 They will say, "Where is this 'coming' he promised? Ever since our fathers died, everything goes on as it has since the beginning of creation." 5 But they deliberately forget that long ago by God's word the heavens existed and the earth was formed out of water and by water. 6 By these waters also the world of that time was deluged and destroyed.
The other day I read an article in the news that a group of archaeologists said that from their digging and studies they concluded that the entire earth had at one time in history been covered with water. There was no reference to the Bible or the biblical account of the flood. I also noticed there was very little attention given by the mainstream media to this great “discovery” by these scientists.
Probably, second only to creation, the flood exemplifies the power and wisdom of God more than any other recorded event. God planned it, prepared Noah for it, and then a hundred years later brought it about. Just as amazing as bringing all that water is the fact that he got rid of it when it was time. He also planned our salvation, prepared everything for it and brought it about in Jesus Christ. This is the same God who will take care of us in his love, wisdom and might.
Heavenly Father it is with joy and thanksgiving that I read about your working over the centuries, and all of it for my good and my salvation. You have given me so many reasons to believe in you and to put my faith in Jesus Christ. As I behold your creation, every part of it declares your glory and wisdom. When the seasons change, I am reminded that life is brief and each part of my life is to get me ready for the next, until I am transitioned into eternity. Make me a stronger and more faithful servant in your kingdom. I humbly pray in the name of Jesus.
