Daily Devotional: Psalms 105:1-7
Ps 105:1-7
1 Give thanks to the LORD, call on his name; make known among the nations what he has done. 2 Sing to him, sing praise to him; tell of all his wonderful acts. 3 Glory in his holy name; let the hearts of those who seek the LORD rejoice. 4 Look to the LORD and his strength; seek his face always. 5 Remember the wonders he has done, his miracles, and the judgments he pronounced, 6 O descendants of Abraham his servant, O sons of Jacob, his chosen ones. 7 He is the LORD our God; his judgments are in all the earth.
Gal 3:6-9
6 Consider Abraham: "He believed God, and it was credited to him as righteousness." 7 Understand, then, that those who believe are children of Abraham. 8 The Scripture foresaw that God would justify the Gentiles by faith and announced the gospel in advance to Abraham: "All nations will be blessed through you." 9 So those who have faith are blessed along with Abraham, the man of faith.
When we serve the Lord in Jesus Christ, we are the descendants of Abraham and are heirs of the blessings promised to him. Our faith is not in Abraham but in the God who made the promises to him and in his Son, the promised Messiah, in Jesus our Lord. God counted Abraham as righteous because of his faith and we too are counted righteous by faith. The mystery is revealed in Jesus Christ.
Paul explains the promise made to the Patriarchs as being fulfilled in Jesus. He is king forever over the people of God. His kingdom is not of this world but is rather a spiritual kingdom made up of all those who serve him as Lord. The Lord adds to the church those who are being saved, so the saved are the church, the spiritual kingdom of God that was promised to Abraham, Isaac, Jacob and David.
What does all this mean to us? It means we belong to Jesus as our Lord, our King and our Savior. We are to follow his word and live to please him. This involves every part of our lives, every day we live. We are his as husband and wife, as parents and children, as employers and employees and as neighbors and friends. We belong to Jesus and he lives in us as we show his love in our lives.
Heavenly Father it is such a privilege and joy to be your child. What a blessing to be called the children of God! Increase my faith so I will live without fear and will show others your grace in my attitude and actions. Help me to be a giving person with all you have given me and never be selfish or greedy. Open my heart and my mind to better understand your word and to be able to live it and teach it as you want me to do. Protect those who are considered as outcast in society and use me to help them feel worthwhile and loved. I pray in the name of Jesus.
