Daily Devotional: Psalms 107:1-9

Ps 107:1-9

1 Give thanks to the LORD, for he is good; his love endures forever. 2 Let the redeemed of the LORD say this--those he redeemed from the hand of the foe, 3 those he gathered from the lands, from east and west, from north and south. 4 Some wandered in desert wastelands, finding no way to a city where they could settle. 5 They were hungry and thirsty, and their lives ebbed away. 6 Then they cried out to the LORD in their trouble, and he delivered them from their distress. 7 He led them by a straight way to a city where they could settle. 8 Let them give thanks to the LORD for his unfailing love and his wonderful deeds for men, 9 for he satisfies the thirsty and fills the hungry with good things.

Luke 6:20-21

20 Looking at his disciples, he said: "Blessed are you who are poor, for yours is the kingdom of God. 21 Blessed are you who hunger now, for you will be satisfied. Blessed are you who weep now, for you will laugh.

This year has been a long and bad year in so many ways. It is easy for us to focus on the virus or on the social unrest in our nation. Even worse for some places there have been droughts and famines and there have been earthquakes while others have suffered from locusts infestations. Wildfires have ravaged millions of acres in the western United States. In addition to all of these, friends and family members have been sick and some have died. Things seem really bad.

But for me to write this and for you to read this means that God is taking care of us and is blessing us in so many ways. Babies have been born and added joy to our families and those of our friends. Just this past week I had two ladies show me pictures of their new granddaughters! There have been so many blessings!

The Lord is full of mercy and compassion and will always hear the cry of his own, no matter where or when they call out to him. He is always mindful of those who live for him and in so doing, honor him and his Holy Name. A year or two out of a hundred is a short time and this year will soon be forgotten by most of us. So we need to devote ourselves to serving him and living for him. We need to rejoice and show his love in Jesus to our friends and neighbors who do not know him.

Heavenly Father it is with great joy that I come to you as my Lord and as my God, realizing that you give me all things by your grace. Thank you for loving me and making a way for me to be forgiven of my wrong-doing and sin in Jesus. Thank you for my physical family and the love we share with each other. Thank you for so many good friends who make my life interesting. Thank you for my spiritual family and the encouragement they give me on a daily basis. I ask your mercy and healing for those who are sick and hurting. I pray in Jesus name.
