Daily Devotional: Psalms 108:1-5
Ps 108:1-5
1 My heart is steadfast, O God; I will sing and make music with all my soul. 2 Awake, harp and lyre! I will awaken the dawn. 3 I will praise you, O LORD, among the nations; I will sing of you among the peoples. 4 For great is your love, higher than the heavens; your faithfulness reaches to the skies. 5 Be exalted, O God, above the heavens, and let your glory be over all the earth.
John 19:7-11
7 The Jews insisted, "We have a law, and according to that law he must die, because he claimed to be the Son of God." 8 When Pilate heard this, he was even more afraid, 9 and he went back inside the palace. "Where do you come from?" he asked Jesus, but Jesus gave him no answer. 10 "Do you refuse to speak to me?" Pilate said. "Don't you realize I have power either to free you or to crucify you?" 11 Jesus answered, "You would have no power over me if it were not given to you from above. Therefore the one who handed me over to you is guilty of a greater sin."
We can never over-emphasis the fact that God is in control over all things in this world and the world to come. While he has allowed Satan to have some power and even refers to him as the prince and ruler of this world, even Satan and evil have their limits. For the devil to control anyone is the result of mind games in which he convinces humans that they are equal to God in their wisdom.
Truth is truth. Right is right. Sin is sin and evil is evil. For anyone who is a Christian to endorse any kind of sin or to encourage any kind of evil is like trying to mix light with darkness – it just is not possible. When we refuse to stand for what is right it is a reproach against God. This is not about politics but about right and wrong.
It is terrible indeed when any politician, preacher or anyone else uses the Word of God to make money or to gain power. This is not anything new because even in Bible times there were prophets, priests and kings who did this. But Paul said that if truth is being propagated, even if the motives of the ones doing it are wrong, we are to still rejoice in the truth being taught. If there is a chance that laws can be changed about murdering babies, can the people of God not support it?
Heavenly Father it is with humble heart that I come to you today and recognize that you are in control. I ask you to give us leaders who will oppose immorality, abortion, and sin of every kind. Give us leaders who respect you as the only true God and who respect your word and who will stand for what is right. Thank you for the freedoms we enjoy in this country and I ask you to allow this to continue. Help me use these freedoms to teach your word and to lead others to you. Give your peace to those who are hurting. I pray in the name of Jesus my Lord.
