Daily Devotional: Psalms 109:21-26
Ps 109:21-26
21 But you, O Sovereign LORD, deal well with me for your name's sake; out of the goodness of your love, deliver me. 22 For I am poor and needy, and my heart is wounded within me. 23 I fade away like an evening shadow; I am shaken off like a locust. 24 My knees give way from fasting; my body is thin and gaunt. 25 I am an object of scorn to my accusers; when they see me, they shake their heads. 26 Help me, O LORD my God; save me in accordance with your love.
2 Cor 4:16-18
16 Therefore we do not lose heart. Though outwardly we are wasting away, yet inwardly we are being renewed day by day. 17 For our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all. 18 So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen. For what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal.
We live in a world that is filled with trouble. It seems that the pandemic is what is foremost on the minds of most people with politics running a close second. These distractions are from the devil and are aimed at getting our focus off of the things that really matter. It has caused some to doubt the goodness of God and some to live in constant fear. There have been friendships lost over these things.
In the military world and in the world of sports one will often hear that the best defense is a good offense. If we are on the attack, there is no time for the enemy to mount his/her offense. This is also true in the spiritual world. The more we are talking about the gospel and the love of God, the less time we have for doubt and fear. Every time we talk to someone about Jesus, we are taking their minds (as well as our own) off of the turmoil and unrest. Keep your minds on Jesus.
This is not to say that our faith is to make us oblivious to what is going on around us but it takes away the fear, the doubt and the frenzy in our lives. We begin to weigh one thing against the other and realize that this world is not our home so whatever happens here is just a passing moment in our lives as we prepare for that eternal rest. Light and darkness cannot co-exist, even so faith drives out fear and thanksgiving dissipates our worry. What is unseen is eternal.
Heavenly Father it is with joy that I thank you and praise you for your goodness every day in my life. I know I am blessed beyond words and that you are always protecting me and my family. You have shown your love to me in so many ways, over so many years so I ask you to help me show others your love in me. Give me words of grace coupled with actions of compassion. Give your healing to those who are sick and your peace to those who are hurting. Guide our elections so that we will have leaders who trust in you as God. I pray in the name of Jesus.
