Daily Devotional: Psalms 118:1-7
Ps 118:1-7
1 Give thanks to the LORD, for he is good; his love endures forever. 2 Let Israel say: "His love endures forever." 3 Let the house of Aaron say: "His love endures forever." 4 Let those who fear the LORD say: "His love endures forever." 5 In my anguish I cried to the LORD, and he answered by setting me free. 6 The LORD is with me; I will not be afraid. What can man do to me? 7 The LORD is with me; he is my helper. I will look in triumph on my enemies.
1 Thess 5:13b-18
Live in peace with each other. 14 And we urge you, brothers, warn those who are idle, encourage the timid, help the weak, be patient with everyone. 15 Make sure that nobody pays back wrong for wrong, but always try to be kind to each other and to everyone else. 16 Be joyful always; 17 pray continually; 18 give thanks in all circumstances, for this is God's will for you in Christ Jesus.
What a day to praise the Lord and be thankful! He is our God and he is ever in control of our lives. He only wants what is best for us and has provided all we need to know and do in every way. His love endures forever. From the beginning he has tried to show us that we can live an abundant life and we can have peace and joy. We can get along with others. Patience pays its rewards.
We have been born in a time and place that affords us so many freedoms and technology that was only science fiction a few years ago. We have freedoms in our lives because of those who have gone before and established a nation that was founded upon the principles of God’s word. We have freedoms because of those who were willing to give their lives for this nation. But most of all, we have them because God has blessed these efforts and has given them to us.
The technology age in which we live is amazing! But we must never forget that none of mankind has created anything. They have only discovered how to use what God has made and given to us. It is he who gave the intelligence to do this and provided the opportunities to put it all together. It is God who made it possible for us to have computers and the internet. The use of microwaves has transformed our lives but it is God who gave them to us. Praise the Lord!
Heavenly Father I am so thankful that you allowed me to be born in this time and to parents in this great nation. Thank you for the many scientific discoveries and advancements that make my life so much easier and allow me to communicate with people around the world in an instant. Thank you for the opportunity to live in peace and to be able to worship you without persecution. Be with those who do not have these freedoms and give them your strength and your peace. Thank you for my family and friends who encourage me. I pray in Jesus name.
