Daily Devotional: Psalms 119:41-48

Ps 119:41-48           Waw

41 May your unfailing love come to me, O LORD, your salvation according to your promise; 42 then I will answer the one who taunts me, for I trust in your word. 43 Do not snatch the word of truth from my mouth, for I have put my hope in your laws. 44 I will always obey your law, for ever and ever. 45 I will walk about in freedom, for I have sought out your precepts. 46 I will speak of your statutes before kings and will not be put to shame, 47 for I delight in your commands because I love them. 48 I lift up my hands to your commands, which I love, and I meditate on your decrees.

Gal 5:1

1 It is for freedom that Christ has set us free. Stand firm, then, and do not let yourselves be burdened again by a yoke of slavery.

Freedom is an interesting thing for the one who seeks to live a godly life. The more we seek to be like Jesus and do what is right and follow the will of the Father, the more freedom we enjoy. This is true in every part of our lives. When we are trying our best to do what is right, we never have to worry about breaking the law or being caught doing wrong. Laws are given to protect the godly from the ungodly and those who do not try to do the right thing.

In Christ we have a freedom that the world does not understand. Too often we think our freedom is just being free from the guilt of sin. This is true and it is a huge freedom but this is only the beginning. As a Christian (follower of Christ), we do not have to worry about what lie we have told or getting caught in it. We are not concerned about being discovered as a fraud or a swindler. We are free from anxiety because we have put righteousness ahead of monetary gain or worldly possessions. Our goal is to be like our Father and he does no wrong.

This gives us the freedom to do whatever we please because what pleases us is doing the will of God. We never feel we are being restricted in our behavior since what we want is always doing the right thing. Sure, we mess up and we sin, but even then, we have the freedom from the penalty of sin because we continually confess our sins to God and he continually forgives us. This is freedom in Christ.

Heavenly Father it is such a joy to be your child and to know that you have forgiven me for all I have done wrong. Thank you for allowing me the opportunity to do your will and to know Jesus as my Lord. Help me make a new commitment each day to serve you and to put you first in my life. Give me wisdom to know and strength to do what is right. Use me to help others by using what you have given me, materially, physically, mentally, emotionally, and spiritually. Be with your people that we will show your love to the world. In Jesus name I pray.
