Daily Devotional: Psalms 119:113-120
Ps 119:113-120 Samekh
113 I hate double-minded men, but I love your law. 114 You are my refuge and my shield; I have put my hope in your word. 115 Away from me, you evildoers, that I may keep the commands of my God! 116 Sustain me according to your promise, and I will live; do not let my hopes be dashed. 117 Uphold me, and I will be delivered; I will always have regard for your decrees. 118 You reject all who stray from your decrees, for their deceitfulness is in vain. 119 All the wicked of the earth you discard like dross; therefore I love your statutes. 120 My flesh trembles in fear of you; I stand in awe of your laws.
Eph 6:17-18
17 Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God. 18 And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the saints.
One of the wonderful things about the word of God is that it is truth. It is not just true statements but it is the embodiment of truth. Absolute truth can never be contradicted and is therefore always dependable. When God has spoken, we have absolute truth revealed to us. This is because to lie is contrary to the very nature of God himself. Jesus said he is truth and Satan is the father of all lies.
Truth may be perverted or distorted but the truth remains. Much like when a dog howls at the moon, the moon is not changed or moved, no matter how much the noise. Paul said that some will suppress the truth in unrighteousness but they will answer to God for doing so. On another occasion he said that some would be lost eternally because they did not love the truth enough to obey it.
The truth of God gives us stability in a tumultuous world. Reliance on truth can give us peace and confidence, even when it seems that we are defeated and seem to be without hope. This is true with the promises of God and it is also true with the commands of God. God knows what is best for us and when we follow his will, we find peace that the world cannot comprehend. When we let our minds dwell on things that are right, wholesome, and true the God of peace has promised to be with us and guard our hearts and minds in Jesus Christ our Lord.
Heavenly Father it is with joy that I look into your word and find truth revealed in every way. You have provided truth in regard to the origin of mankind and this world. You have revealed truth in regard to the purpose of my existence and what you expect of me in life. Help me remember that a big part of living for you is serving others around me. Use me to do your will, where you want me to be used. Give your peace to those who are living in fear as they put their trust in you. Be with your people who are struggling. I humbly pray in the name of Jesus.
