Daily Devotional: Psalms 119:129-136
Ps 119:129-136 Pe
129 Your statutes are wonderful; therefore I obey them. 130 The unfolding of your words gives light; it gives understanding to the simple. 131 I open my mouth and pant, longing for your commands. 132 Turn to me and have mercy on me, as you always do to those who love your name. 133 Direct my footsteps according to your word; let no sin rule over me. 134 Redeem me from the oppression of men, that I may obey your precepts. 135 Make your face shine upon your servant and teach me your decrees. 136 Streams of tears flow from my eyes, for your law is not obeyed.
2 Tim 1:3-6
3 I thank God, whom I serve, as my forefathers did, with a clear conscience, as night and day I constantly remember you in my prayers. 4 Recalling your tears, I long to see you, so that I may be filled with joy. 5 I have been reminded of your sincere faith, which first lived in your grandmother Lois and in your mother Eunice and, I am persuaded, now lives in you also.
I was blessed by growing up in an unusual family. I was the middle boy of five, with my sister being the baby of six children. Each of us were totally different in our personalities and many of our likes and dislikes. For my oldest brother, the idea of fun meant reading a book or playing the piano. My youngest brother was the happiest when he was taking something apart to see what made it work and then trying to get it back together and making it still work. My passion was sports, exercise, and girls (not always that order) so studying and grades fell down the list of importance for me. Each of us were unique individuals in many ways.
But if you were ever around us, you would see that we all have very similar traits in many ways. Our parents instilled in all of us a love for the Lord and respect for his word. Reading was a regular and important part of our daily lives, with the Bible being read daily after our evening meal. We were encouraged to think and reason for ourselves. However, with any issue, question, or problem, we were told to go to the Bible for the answer. We were truly taught to love the law of the Lord and to follow its precepts the very best we knew and could do.
Heavenly Father I am so thankful for my upbringing and for the parents you chose for me. Thank you for the love they always showed me but even more, thank you for their love for you and your word they instilled in me. Thank you for all of my family, especially for my wife and our family. Thank you for the gift of Jesus who came to earth so my sins can be forgiven and I can be counted righteous in him. Help me to be willing to give of myself and of what you have given me to share with others and to help those who are in need. I pray in Jesus name.
