Daily Devotional: Psalms 119:153-160
Ps 119:153-160 Resh
153 Look upon my suffering and deliver me, for I have not forgotten your law. 154 Defend my cause and redeem me; preserve my life according to your promise. 155 Salvation is far from the wicked, for they do not seek out your decrees. 156 Your compassion is great, O LORD; preserve my life according to your laws. 157 Many are the foes who persecute me, but I have not turned from your statutes. 158 I look on the faithless with loathing, for they do not obey your word. 159 See how I love your precepts; preserve my life, O LORD, according to your love. 160 All your words are true; all your righteous laws are eternal.
Matt 28:5-7
5 The angel said to the women, "Do not be afraid, for I know that you are looking for Jesus, who was crucified. 6 He is not here; he has risen, just as he said. Come and see the place where he lay. 7 Then go quickly and tell his disciples: 'He has risen from the dead and is going ahead of you into Galilee. There you will see him.' Now I have told you."
What a blessing that God keeps his word and has revealed it to us. Jesus was the promised Messiah that had been anticipated for centuries before he came. Not only was he anticipated by the Jewish people but the Samaritans were also looking for his coming as were the Magi from the east. The whole world was looking for Emanuel, the Son of God. But little did they know what to expect.
Jesus has risen from the grave and has returned to sit at the right hand of the Father. He is now King of Kings and he is Lord of Lords. All authority has been given to him, both in heaven and on earth. His kingdom is made up of his people, all those who have been washed clean by his blood. When he comes again, it will be to take all of his own with him back to glory to live forever.
As we begin this new year, let us focus on serving God and following his word. We do this because his love is perfected in us. We do this because it brings honor to the Father. We do this because he has shown his love to us by giving his Son to die for our sins. We seek to obey his word because it shows our trust in him and in his authority over us. We trust and obey so we can live with him in glory.
Heavenly Father I am so thankful for the years that have gone by and now for the new year that I am facing. As before, I have no idea what this year holds for me but I trust you in advance to use it to your glory in my life. Give me a willing heart to serve and to use all I am and all I have to honor you. Be with your people that we will be faithful to you, even if things are not always easy. Give your peace to the broken hearted and give your healing to the sick. Thank you for revealing your word to us so we can live for you. I pray in the name of Jesus my Lord.
