Daily Devotional: Psalms 131:1-3
Ps 131:1-3
1 My heart is not proud, O LORD, my eyes are not haughty; I do not concern myself with great matters or things too wonderful for me. 2 But I have stilled and quieted my soul; like a weaned child with its mother, like a weaned child is my soul within me. 3 O Israel, put your hope in the LORD both now and forevermore.
Eph 3:6-9
6 This mystery is that through the gospel the Gentiles are heirs together with Israel, members together of one body, and sharers together in the promise in Christ Jesus. 7 I became a servant of this gospel by the gift of God's grace given me through the working of his power. 8 Although I am less than the least of all God's people, this grace was given me: to preach to the Gentiles the unsearchable riches of Christ, 9 and to make plain to everyone the administration of this mystery, which for ages past was kept hidden in God, who created all things.
God loves everyone in the world so much and he wants everyone to live with him in eternity. This great love prompted him to send the only one who represents him in every way, his unique Son, to this earth to live as one of us. Even though he was tempted in every way, just as we are tempted, he never sinned. Then God allowed his perfect Son to die a horrible death on a cross, with the guilt of our sin upon him so that we might be counted as righteous before him.
God cannot condone sin or overlook it. Because he is a just God, sin must be punished with death. As Jesus faced death, he cried to the Father, “My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?” His own Father had turned his back on him because of sin, sin not his own but yours and mine. This is God’s love for us.
All who come to God in Christ Jesus will never face what our Savior faced on that day. We will never be forsaken or left alone to face whatever happens to us. Paul says that we can turn everything over to him in prayer and not worry about anything at all because “the Lord is near.” Sometimes life is not easy. We all have times that we get down or depressed but Jesus will hold our hand and walk with us. He will give us strength each day and he will see us through.
Heavenly Father I am thankful for your wonderful love that allows me to be your child. Thank you for all the spiritual blessings in Christ Jesus. Lord, as our nation begins a new chapter, I ask you to guide our leaders with your wisdom so we can live peaceful and quiet lives. Be with your people that we will have and show respect for all those who govern us, even when we do not agree with them. Help me remember that Jesus is King of kings and he is Lord of lords and my citizenship is in heaven, not on this earth. I humbly pray in his name.
