Daily Devotional: Psalms 134:1-3
Ps 134:1-3
1 Praise the LORD, all you servants of the LORD who minister by night in the house of the LORD. 2 Lift up your hands in the sanctuary and praise the LORD. 3 May the LORD, the Maker of heaven and earth, bless you from Zion.
2 Cor 1:3-5
3 Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort, 4 who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves have received from God. 5 For just as the sufferings of Christ flow over into our lives, so also through Christ our comfort overflows.
On one occasion, Jesus said that when we give just a cup of cold water to one who is thirsty, it is noticed and will not be forgotten by our heavenly Father. Paul said that we are to do good to everyone whenever we have the opportunity. In another passage Paul wrote that we are to be kind and tenderhearted. Every deed of kindness or compassion that we do because we are Christians, is a way of praising God and giving him glory. We let our lights shine so others will see our good works and glorify our Father who is in heaven. We do all to the glory of God.
When we allow the Spirit to work in us and change us, the result in our lives is an increase of love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. There is nothing that honors our Father more then when we imitate him and become like him. This is the essence of Christianity in action.
The other side of this coin is that when we live for God in total trust, showing his love and compassion to others, he will bless us and he will protect us. Whatever our troubles in life, he will always be there with his comfort and he will give us strength to make it through. Each new trial we face with his power will cause us to grow closer to him and will make our faith even stronger than before.
No wonder Paul says that we are not to worry about anything but rather we are to rejoice and give thanks to God as we lift up our burdens to him. Our God is ever watching over us and is protecting us. We then use his love, his compassion, his power and his comfort to help others who are struggling also. Praise the Lord!
Heavenly Father I am so thankful for your infinite wisdom. You take the worst that Satan can throw at me and use it to make me stronger and a better person. It is amazing that you can give me peace in the midst of the whole world crashing in on me, but you do and I praise you. Lord, it seems that our nation is bent on doing evil and not recognizing you as God. I ask you to convict our leaders that they will respect you and want to seek your wisdom. Be merciful to all who are seeking to do your will and who do put their trust in you. I pray in Jesus name.
