Daily Devotional: Psalms 139:13-18
Ps 139:13-18
13 For you created my inmost being, you knit me together in my mother's womb. 14 I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful; I know that full well. 15 My frame was not hidden from you when I was made in the secret place. When I was woven together in the depths of the earth, 16 your eyes saw my unformed body. All the days ordained for me were written in your book before one of them came to be. 17 How precious to me are your thoughts, O God! How vast is the sum of them! 18 Were I to count them, they would outnumber the grains of sand. When I awake, I am still with you.
Rom 8:26-27
26 In the same way, the Spirit helps us in our weakness. We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us with groans that words cannot express. 27 And he who searches our hearts knows the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for the saints in accordance with God's will.
Hold me. I need a hug. On many occasions I have been to the family of someone who has passed from this life and the response is to just hug them or hold them without a word being said. That is because the hug says all that needs to be said in this situation. Most of us have picked up a crying child or grandchild and held them until they became quite and the crying ceased. What is this hug?
To be held is the assurance that the person understands and that they really love you and care about you. It is comfort that transcends words and transfers the feeling from within the heart. We are not alone in our troubles but we know we can share our grief, our pain or even our joy with the other person.
There is no greater feeling of comfort than to know that we are being held in the arms of Jesus. To feel the assurance and peace that comes from being held close to the breast of our heavenly Father is true peace indeed. Whatever we face in life, whether it is suffering or rejoicing, we can share it with our brother and with our Father as he holds us close and shares his very Spirit with us. This is because he knows and he understands all we face each day. He does care and he truly loves with a love that is beyond our ability to comprehend. Praise the Lord!
O Lord, I am so thankful that I can come to you and know that you hear me and that you will respond to my cry. Thank you for not leaving me all alone in this world but giving me people who love me in addition to your forever presence in my heart and my life. You have lifted my grief, you have filled me with peace and assurance in times of trial, you have given me strength to carry on when I was ready to quit. Help me share your love and your redemption with those who do not know you. Worthy is the Lamb to be praised! In his name I pray.
