Daily Devotional: Psalms 147:15-20
Ps 147:15-20
15 He sends his command to the earth; his word runs swiftly. 16 He spreads the snow like wool and scatters the frost like ashes. 17 He hurls down his hail like pebbles. Who can withstand his icy blast? 18 He sends his word and melts them; he stirs up his breezes, and the waters flow. 19 He has revealed his word to Jacob, his laws and decrees to Israel. 20 He has done this for no other nation; they do not know his laws. Praise the LORD.
Heb 4:12-13
12 For the word of God is living and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart. 13 Nothing in all creation is hidden from God's sight Everything is uncovered and laid bare before the eyes of him to whom we must give account.
God’s word is active. He is ever working and he is still giving orders to his creation. At his command the hurricane is stirred in the open waters and by his word the soft gentle rain comes on the land. It is by the word of God that the sun rises each day and gives us the light and warmth we too often take for granted. Paul said all mankind is without excuse because God can be seen all around us in creation.
God has revealed his will for us in the word we know as the Bible. In this, he has given us all we need for life and for godliness. It never gets out of date and it furnishes us unto all good works which God has prepared before hand for us to live for him. But more than all of this, his word reveals the good news of Jesus and the salvation from sin that we can all have in him. He has shown us how terrible sin is and the consequences of that sin, being death or eternal separation from him in the glories of heaven. His word tells of his love and his grace for us.
But Jesus is the Word of God, come from heaven and shown to mankind. He is the Word of God incarnate, revealing the Father to us all. Jesus is the truth of God and gives us life abundantly on this earth and then life eternal when death comes to us. Jesus exemplified the Word of God in his life and shows us how it can be lived when we put our total trust in the Father and seek to obey him.
Heavenly Father I am so thankful for the revelation of your word and all it shows me and all it does for me. Thank you for sending your Son and for the life he lived and the example he left for me to follow. Thank you for your love and his shown to me by his death on the cross. Thank you for the confidence I can have because of his resurrection and the assurance it gives for my own resurrection. Give me wisdom, greater faith and more strength to become all you want me to be. Use me in your way to serve you by serving others. I pray in Jesus name.
