Daily Devotional: Psalms 2:7-12

Ps 2:7-12

7 I will proclaim the decree of the LORD: He said to me, "You are my Son; today I have become your Father. 8 Ask of me, and I will make the nations your inheritance, the ends of the earth your possession. 9 You will rule them with an iron scepter; you will dash them to pieces like pottery." 10 Therefore, you kings, be wise; be warned, you rulers of the earth. 11 Serve the LORD with fear and rejoice with trembling. 12 Kiss the Son, lest he be angry and you be destroyed in your way, for his wrath can flare up in a moment. Blessed are all who take refuge in him.

Heb 1:3-5

3 The Son is the radiance of God's glory and the exact representation of his being, sustaining all things by his powerful word. After he had provided purification for sins, he sat down at the right hand of the Majesty in heaven. 4 So he became as much superior to the angels as the name he has inherited is superior to theirs. 5 For to which of the angels did God ever say, "You are my Son; today I have become your Father"? Or again, "I will be his Father, and he will be my Son"?

We live in a nation that offers freedoms that most people of the world have never known. We can say what we want to say and go where we want to go. We can change jobs and follow our dreams, with the only limit often being our drive and our imagination. We are free to worship as we understand it is to be done and we are free to not worship at all if we choose to ignore God.

In history, most people have lived under monarchies or dictators. They did what they were told or incurred the wrath of the king. They lived where he decided they would live and they pursued the occupation they were given. If they dared to voice an opinion contrary to the official decree, they were put to death. Freedom was at best, just a dream for the foolhardy, but never a reality for most.

Having a righteous and a just king was a blessing most never knew. However, as the citizens of the kingdom of God and with Jesus as our King, we not only enjoy his protection and perfect direction, but we also enjoy freedoms as no other people have ever known. Most of all, in Jesus we are free from the guilt of sin.

Heavenly Father it is such a privilege to be your child and to be in your kingdom with all the blessings this affords me in life. Thank you for your love that makes this possible. Keep me from being proud and following my own desires, instead of submitting to you and to your will. Forgive me when I fail to live up to your glory. Give me a pure and loving heart and use me in your service, in your way. I need greater faith, wisdom and strength to be like Jesus. In his name I pray.
