Daily Devotional: Psalms 3:1-8
Ps 3:1-8
1 O LORD, how many are my foes! How many rise up against me! 2 Many are saying of me, "God will not deliver him." Selah 3 But you are a shield around me, O LORD; you bestow glory on me and lift up my head. 4 To the LORD I cry aloud, and he answers me from his holy hill. Selah 5 I lie down and sleep; I wake again, because the LORD sustains me. 6 I will not fear the tens of thousands drawn up against me on every side. 7 Arise, O LORD! Deliver me, O my God! Strike all my enemies on the jaw; break the teeth of the wicked. 8 From the LORD comes deliverance. May your blessing be on your people. Selah
Matt 6:28-31
28 "And why do you worry about clothes? See how the lilies of the field grow. They do not labor or spin. 29 Yet I tell you that not even Solomon in all his splendor was dressed like one of these. 30 If that is how God clothes the grass of the field, which is here today and tomorrow is thrown into the fire, will he not much more clothe you, O you of little faith?
The wise man said that a lone person can be overtaken but with two there is strength and a cord of three is not easily broken. There is strength in numbers and the stronger each one is, even more is the strength of them together when acting in harmony. After creating man, God saw that it was not good for him to be alone but that he needed someone compatible with him, and God made woman.
As Christians we offer strength to each other. We assemble together so that we can encourage each other and share our lives with each other. In this union we individually are stronger to face the world with its temptations and trials. We can share our faults and pray for each other. We can unload our burdens and know that someone will help us with the load. When the going is rough, we find help and motivation to keep going. Truly God’s church is a wonderful blessing.
But it was not in the strength of the armies of Israel that David killed Goliath. It was in the name of the Lord and in his strength that he put his trust and he won the victory. Faith is the victory that overcomes the world. Greater is the one who lives in you than is the prince of this world. When we put our faith in God, there is never any reason for us to worry or be afraid. Our God can sustain and deliver us.
Heavenly Father I need your strength and the power of your Spirit in my life every day. I need greater faith so that I turn everything over to you and worry about nothing. I do not doubt your ability to handle my problems but too often I try to carry them all alone. Help me remember that when you are with me, nothing can overtake me or harm me. By your grace and in your strength, I can keep a positive mind today and not fear or worry about anything. I pray in Jesus name.
