Daily Devotional: Psalms 11:1-7
Ps 11:1-7
1 In the LORD I take refuge. How then can you say to me: "Flee like a bird to your mountain. 2 For look, the wicked bend their bows; they set their arrows against the strings to shoot from the shadows at the upright in heart. 3 When the foundations are being destroyed, what can the righteous do?" 4 The LORD is in his holy temple; the LORD is on his heavenly throne. He observes the sons of men; his eyes examine them. 5 The LORD examines the righteous, but the wicked and those who love violence his soul hates. 6 On the wicked he will rain fiery coals and burning sulfur; a scorching wind will be their lot. 7 For the LORD is righteous, he loves justice; upright men will see his face.
O, for the faith of David! Can you imagine living your life with no fear from this world and without worry from whatever may happen? When it was famine, he trusted in the Lord. When his enemies sought to destroy him, he trusted in the Lord. When he had trouble in his family, he trusted in the Lord. When he needed to make decisions in his life, he trusted in the Lord. Whatever came up, he trusted in the Lord to guide him, protect him, to deliver him and to give him peace.
But David was a mere mortal. He had to eat, drink, and do all of the same things you and I have to do every day. He worked for a living most of his life and he had more problems than you and I can imagine. The key to it was that he did actually put his trust in the Lord instead of trusting himself or his own thinking or wisdom or his personal strength. He depended upon God in every aspect of his life.
There were those who tried to intimidate him and to get him to worry about his own life but they failed in this. His reply was that the Lord is in his holy temple and sitting on his throne so I will not worry. He reasoned that God had promised to take care of him and God is faithful, and always keeps his word so he had no reason to let anything get to him or cause him to despair. He trusted God.
We can have this peace of mind. We can have this assurance. We can have this freedom from worry and fear because we serve the same God and he is still faithful to the promises he has made to us. He said he would never leave or fail those who trust him. He promised to supply our needs. We can trust God too!
O Lord God, increase my faith and take away all of my worry and fear. Remove my anxiety and replace it with your peace and the assurance that you are in complete control. Thank you for all you have done for me in the past and all you do for me every day. Give your peace to those who are facing disease and taking treatments and those who are grieving the loss of the one they love so much. Give assurance and assistance to those who are struggling. Use me to be the help that someone needs today. Give me wisdom from above. I pray in the name of Jesus.
