Daily Devotional: Psalms 17:6-10
Ps 17:6-10
6 I call on you, O God, for you will answer me; give ear to me and hear my prayer. 7 Show the wonder of your great love, you who save by your right hand those who take refuge in you from their foes. 8 Keep me as the apple of your eye; hide me in the shadow of your wings 9 from the wicked who assail me, from my mortal enemies who surround me. 10 They close up their callous hearts, and their mouths speak with arrogance.
1 Thess 5:23-24
23 May God himself, the God of peace, sanctify you through and through. May your whole spirit, soul and body be kept blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. 24 The one who calls you is faithful and he will do it.
Being a parent of an only child and then later becoming a grandparent of an only grandchild, I understand what it means for one to be the apple of my eye. They are both special (each in his own way) to me and there is not anything I would not do for them if possible. (And yes, we did our best to spoil both of them.) Add to this our wonderful daughter-in-law and we understand what it means for someone to be the apple of our eye. They all hold a place special in our hearts.
You are the apple of his eye! That means you are extra special to the God who made you and who controls all things. You hold a place in the heart of God who loves you and gave his Son to die for your sin. When things are going really good in your life, God and his angels rejoice with you. When you are hurting, he feels your pain and he has promised to be with you through it. He is faithful.
We often may fail to see God in our lives because he does not always do things the way we think it needs to be done or in the time frame we have set in our minds. There were times that I let my son and my grandson make mistakes that hurt, so they could learn from them. We tried to discipline and train them so they would learn to be responsible adults. And yes, it hurt us to do this more than it did them at times but we felt it was necessary and for their good. God, in his wisdom does this for us in our lives as well. Our faith grows in trials. Our patience grows in waiting and enduring. Our love grows as we learn to be like him.
Heavenly Father it is so wonderful to know that I am the apple of your eye, that you love me and only want what is best for me. It gives me great peace to know that you are faithful in all you say and do. Help me show my appreciation to you by submitting to your will in every part of my life. Increase my faith and give me greater patience to wait on you as I learn to work out what you work in me. Be with those who are taking treatments and give your healing where it is best. Give your peace to those who have lost loved ones. I pray in Jesus name.
