Daily Devotional: Psalms 22:25-31
Ps 22:25-31
25 From you comes the theme of my praise in the great assembly; before those who fear you will I fulfill my vows. 26 The poor will eat and be satisfied; they who seek the LORD will praise him--may your hearts live forever! 27 All the ends of the earth will remember and turn to the LORD, and all the families of the nations will bow down before him, 28 for dominion belongs to the LORD and he rules over the nations. 29 All the rich of the earth will feast and worship; all who go down to the dust will kneel before him--those who cannot keep themselves alive. 30 Posterity will serve him; future generations will be told about the Lord. 31 They will proclaim his righteousness to a people yet unborn--for he has done it.
When the children of Israel were about to enter the land that God had promised to them, they sent some spies into Jericho. These men were hidden and protected by Rahab, a woman of that city. She explained her actions in Joshua 2:10-11: We have heard how the LORD dried up the water of the Red Sea for you when you came out of Egypt, and what you did to Sihon and Og, the two kings of the Amorites east of the Jordan, whom you completely destroyed. When we heard of it, our hearts melted and everyone's courage failed because of you, for the LORD your God is God in heaven above and on the earth below.
It is amazing to me that this woman, considered a heathen, put her faith in the Lord as the only true God and was saved from destruction. She heard what God had been doing for the last forty plus years and took note of it. If the people for whom God had done these mighty works and their descendants had listened as much as Rahab, they too would have been saved from later captivity.
Do we see God at work in our lives and the lives of others around us? Do we see God in the world affairs or do we just see “things happening”? God does not sleep and he does not slumber. He is vitally interested in his people today, just as he was for Israel in their journey to Canaan. They faced all kinds of trials and problems but God was there to deliver them. We will face things in our lives but God is here with us, every moment of every day. If God sees and cares about the little birds, and Jesus said he does, how much more does he care for his children!
Lord God, Mighty Creator and sustainer of life and all things, I stand in awe before you and recognize that I am nothing in the scheme of this world. I know that the greatest deed and accomplishment I may do is nothing in your sight. Yet, I know that every good deed done in the name of Jesus is not overlooked or forgotten. I know that when I trust you with my whole heart, you notice and you care. Use me Lord, to do your will, in your way and in your time. Be with those who are hurting and struggling and give them your strength and peace. In Jesus name.
