Daily Devotional: Psalms 24:1-6
Ps 24:1-6
1 The earth is the LORD's, and everything in it, the world, and all who live in it; 2 for he founded it upon the seas and established it upon the waters. 3 Who may ascend the hill of the LORD? Who may stand in his holy place? 4 He who has clean hands and a pure heart, who does not lift up his soul to an idol or swear by what is false. 5 He will receive blessing from the LORD and vindication from God his Savior. 6 Such is the generation of those who seek him, who seek your face, O God of Jacob. Rom 9:20-21
20 But who are you, O man, to talk back to God? "Shall what is formed say to him who formed it, 'Why did you make me like this?'" 21 Does not the potter have the right to make out of the same lump of clay some pottery for noble purposes and some for common use?
God made us and all that is in the world. How foolish for anyone to think they can know what is better than God how we should live. It is absurd for anyone to not accept his decrees of what is right and what is wrong. Why would we want to worship that which is made inferior to us instead of giving honor to the one who made it all? Wealth, power, material things and all else is destined to perish but we can live forever with the Lord. We must love and serve God above all else.
When we put God first in our lives, we will receive his blessing, his protections, and his provisions. God gives many blessings to all of mankind; he sends rain and sunshine on all and he gives food to those who need it. But his spiritual blessings are all found only in Jesus Christ. These only come to those who put their trust in him and not in any other god or gods. God will not share his glory with idols.
The greatest blessing of all is the knowledge that we will leave this world to be with the Lord in eternity. While we love this life and have so many friends and family members we hold dear, none of this compares with being in the presence of God and his Son. All our pains and sickness will be healed, our sorrows and tears will be gone, and there will be no anxiety or fear. But a city so beautiful, it is indescribable, where the glory of God will give light in place of the sun.
Heavenly Father I am so thankful to be your child. I want to be like you in all I do and say but I know that far too often I fail, and in so doing, I sin. Thank you for your continued forgiveness in Jesus. I need your wisdom and your strength every day as I seek to serve you and do your will. You have blessed me in so many ways and I ask you to help me use all of these to your glory. Keep me from putting my trust in things or being selfish with what you have given me. Give your peace and healing to those who are sick and taking treatments. In Jesus name.
