Daily Devotional: Psalms 25:1-7
Ps 25:1-7
1 To you, O LORD, I lift up my soul; 2 in you I trust, O my God. Do not let me be put to shame, nor let my enemies triumph over me. 3 No one whose hope is in you will ever be put to shame, but they will be put to shame who are treacherous without excuse. 4 Show me your ways, O LORD, teach me your paths; 5 guide me in your truth and teach me, for you are God my Savior, and my hope is in you all day long. 6 Remember, O LORD, your great mercy and love, for they are from of old. 7 Remember not the sins of my youth and my rebellious ways; according to your love remember me, for you are good, O LORD.
2 Tim 2:11-13
11 Here is a trustworthy saying: If we died with him, we will also live with him; 12 if we endure, we will also reign with him. If we disown him, he will also disown us; 13 if we are faithless, he will remain faithful, for he cannot disown himself.
We should all pray with the Psalmist for God to show us his ways, teach us his paths, and to guide and teach us in his truth. But we will have to put our trust in him as completely as did the Psalmist if we want him to do it for us. David said: “you are my God” and not just that he is God. For God to be with us we must be truly committed to him and to his word. In him we put all of our hope.
As we get older, we tend to see things more clearly and realign our priorities. We find it easier to focus on eternity as we more realistically accept our mortality. In doing this we also look back and see the many mistakes we have made and wish we could change some things that have happened. We cannot alter the past but we can rely on God to not remember the sins of our youth but according to his love he will remember who we are. So we live each day closer to our God.
Jesus died for us so we die to sin and live for him. We remain faithful to him so we will reign with him in eternity. But when we are weak and when we fail, he does not change. He is the same, yesterday, today and forever. Even if we disown him and totally lose our faith, he is faithful because he is the Son of God and it is his nature to be so. Jesus has given his all for us. What are we giving for him? We are to let him live in us so the world will see our good deeds and glorify the Father.
Lord God, I just want to be like Jesus in all I do and in everything I say. Give me your Spirit to instill your wisdom in me and to guide me. As his fruit grows in me, give me greater self-control to do what I know is the right thing to do. Increase my faith so I put all of my trust in you and never in the things of this world. Help me reach out to those who are lost and show them Jesus. Use me to comfort those who are hurting. Put positive words in my heart so I will be filled with your joy and your peace. Use me in your will. I pray in the name of Jesus.
