Daily Devotional: Psalms 25:8-15
Ps 25:8-15
8 Good and upright is the LORD; therefore he instructs sinners in his ways. 9 He guides the humble in what is right and teaches them his way. 10 All the ways of the LORD are loving and faithful for those who keep the demands of his covenant. 11 For the sake of your name, O LORD, forgive my iniquity, though it is great. 12 Who, then, is the man that fears the LORD? He will instruct him in the way chosen for him. 13 He will spend his days in prosperity, and his descendants will inherit the land. 14 The LORD confides in those who fear him; he makes his covenant known to them. 15 My eyes are ever on the LORD, for only he will release my feet from the snare.
Eph 2:8-10
8 For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith-and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God- 9 not by works, so that no one can boast. 10 For we are God's workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.
In the story of creation, it tells us that God made Adam and Eve and then it says that “in his image made he them.” We are made in the likeness of God so we can be like him here on earth. But because of sin this has been spoiled. In his letter to the Romans, Paul says that we are all guilty of sin because we all have sinned. This sin separates us from the loving God who made us to be like him.
But in Jesus Christ we can be born again. Just like in our original physical birth, we are born spiritually, free from sin. We are reborn in purpose as we now seek to be like Jesus and we allow him to live in us. As he lived to the glory of God, so we are to glorify the Father in all we do. So because we are now a new person, we do the good works God has prepared for us to do. As stars shining in a dark sky, so we illume the dark world in which we live as we reflect the light of Jesus in us.
God has given us his inspired word so we can be completely furnished unto all good works. As we pray for wisdom, he gives it freely. His Spirit living in us gives us strength far beyond what we can think or even imagine possible. So with Paul we can confidently say that we can do all things through Christ who lives in us.
Lord God just fill me with your Spirit so I will be like Jesus in my commitment to do your will and not my own. Help me truly put the interest of others ahead of my own and in so doing show your love in me. The more I know you and your perfect will, the more I realize how weak I am and how often I fail to live up to your glory. As you mold me each day into your likeness, I need your continued forgiveness. Use me where you want me to be used in the way that best honors you. Give your peace to those who are hurting and struggling. I pray in the name of Jesus.
