Daily Devotional: Psalms 27:7-14
Ps 27:7-14
7 Hear my voice when I call, O LORD; be merciful to me and answer me. 8 My heart says of you, "Seek his face!" Your face, LORD, I will seek. 9 Do not hide your face from me, do not turn your servant away in anger; you have been my helper. Do not reject me or forsake me, O God my Savior. 10 Though my father and mother forsake me, the LORD will receive me. 11 Teach me your way, O LORD; lead me in a straight path because of my oppressors. 12 Do not turn me over to the desire of my foes, for false witnesses rise up against me, breathing out violence. 13 I am still confident of this: I will see the goodness of the LORD in the land of the living. 14 Wait for the LORD; be strong and take heart and wait for the LORD.
Rom 8:24-25
24 For in this hope we were saved. But hope that is seen is no hope at all. Who hopes for what he already has? 25 But if we hope for what we do not yet have, we wait for it patiently.
Imagine yourself as Moses. He had been trained to be a leader of people. He had risen to be one of the most successful and most loved generals in the Egyptian army and probably in line to be the next Pharaoh. Now he has lost it all, fled for his life and has become a shepherd for the sheep of a stranger in a foreign land, on a rough hillside. This is not what he expected when he sided with God.
Since he was a normal man with all of our weaknesses, he probably spent the next ten years wondering what had happened and feeling he had wasted his life, and for no good reason. All of his education and training were to no avail.
But God was just getting him ready to go to work. When it was the right time with God and his training was complete, God had plenty of important work for him to do. When he was an old man and had put all of his past behind him and accepted his plight as a shepherd, God woke him up with a burning bush.
God can use you and me at any age, in every situation in our lives. It may not be as a leader or deliverer of a nation. But God does use us to raise our families to serve him or to teach our neighbor about Jesus. He uses us to encourage the weak or be a good spouse or share what he has given us if we yield to him.
Heavenly Father it is hard to wait. I am used to having things done quickly and I live in a world that likes things to be instant. Increase my faith so I will be patient and wait on you in every part of my life. But help me have the wisdom to see what you want me to do and to be ever working in your kingdom. Give me faith and patience when I am sick or when troubles come into my life. Help me open my heart to your Spirit to be molded by him. I pray in Jesus name.
