Daily Devotional: Psalms 33:1-11

Ps 33:1-11

1 Sing joyfully to the LORD, you righteous; it is fitting for the upright to praise him. 2 Praise the LORD with the harp; make music to him on the ten-stringed lyre. 3 Sing to him a new song; play skillfully, and shout for joy. 4 For the word of the LORD is right and true; he is faithful in all he does. 5 The LORD loves righteousness and justice; the earth is full of his unfailing love. 6 By the word of the LORD were the heavens made, their starry host by the breath of his mouth. 7 He gathers the waters of the sea into jars; he puts the deep into storehouses. 8 Let all the earth fear the LORD; let all the people of the world revere him. 9 For he spoke, and it came to be; he commanded, and it stood firm. 10 The LORD foils the plans of the nations; he thwarts the purposes of the peoples. 11 But the plans of the LORD stand firm forever, the purposes of his heart through all generations.

Who is God? He is the one who designed everything that exists and then spoke it into existence. God is by his very nature, the supreme power and the supreme wisdom and therefore all things are accountable to him. It is fitting that we all praise him and his holy name. All the world is to revere him and fear him because he alone is God and he determines what is good and what is right for us.

Just before Jesus left this earth to return to the Father, he said that all authority had been given to him, both in heaven and on earth. He is the King of kings and he is Lord of lords and will rule over all that God has made until the end of time, when he hands it all back to the Father. Jesus is worthy of our praise and we do this best when we live for him and show him respect in our manner of life.

God is love. John said that real love is all about God, not about you and me or anyone else on earth. Genuine love and ultimate love is shown by God when he sent his Son to this earth to live and then die for us. God made his Son who knew no sin, to become sin on our behalf so that we can be made the righteousness of God in him. He is the substitute offering for sin for all of mankind. This is love and this is grace. We are therefore urged to not receive the grace of God in vain but to accept it with our whole heart and being, to live for him and honor him.

Lord God, creator and sustainer of all things, I know that I do not deserve to come before you or to talk to you. But in the name of Jesus your Son I come to you as not only God, but as my Father. Thank you for your great love which allowed Jesus to become my Savior and my Lord but also my friend. I want to please you in every thought and in every action of my life but I know I fail too often. Thank you for continuing to forgive me by the blood of Jesus. Lord, be with those who are sick, those taking treatments and those who are hurting deeply.
