Daily Devotional: Psalms 34:1-7
Ps 34:1-7
1 I will extol the LORD at all times; his praise will always be on my lips. 2 My soul will boast in the LORD; let the afflicted hear and rejoice. 3 Glorify the LORD with me; let us exalt his name together. 4 I sought the LORD, and he answered me; he delivered me from all my fears. 5 Those who look to him are radiant; their faces are never covered with shame. 6 This poor man called, and the LORD heard him; he saved him out of all his troubles. 7 The angel of the LORD encamps around those who fear him, and he delivers them.
John 15:9-12
9 "As the Father has loved me, so have I loved you. Now remain in my love. 10 If you obey my commands, you will remain in my love, just as I have obeyed my Father's commands and remain in his love. 11 I have told you this so that my joy may be in you and that your joy may be complete. 12 My command is this: Love each other as I have loved you.
There are so many trails in our lives and we often fail the test. We are faced with doubts and we may even turn away from God for a time. But he is willing to take us back and forgive us of all we have done in our past. Often our failure is when we fail to trust him – really put our faith in him and in his promises – and so we begin to doubt or we allow our hearts to be filled with anxiety. Another failure is when we get involved in some sin that overtakes us and we wake up one day and realize how far we have gone from God. Like the prodigal son, he is waiting for us to come home and he welcomes us with open arms – ready to forgive.
As our loving Father, he wants us to live for him and be like him. He gives his Spirit to us when we become his child and he continues to work in us as long as we remain pliable to his will. He will give us his strength to overcome any and every temptation we face. He will fill our hearts with joy in the midst of our storms and he will give us peace, even as we fight our battles. His love never fails.
“The love of God is greater far, than tongue or pen can ever tell. It goes beyond the highest star and reaches to the lowest hell.” His love is sure and will endure.
Heavenly Father I am so thankful for your love, for your mercy, your compassion and your grace shown to me in the forgiveness of my sins. I want to be just like Jesus but I find myself failing and sinning far too often. I say things I wish I had not said or I do things that make me ashamed. I allow my attitude to become rotten at times and then I gossip or judge others in their weakness without taking my own into account. Give me greater faith to allow the fruit of the Spirit to grow within my heart. Thank you for continuing to forgive me. Use me to help others who are struggling and hurting. I pray in the name of Jesus my Lord.
