Daily Devotional: Psalms 36:1-6
Ps 36:1-6
1 An oracle is within my heart concerning the sinfulness of the wicked: There is no fear of God before his eyes. 2 For in his own eyes he flatters himself too much to detect or hate his sin. 3 The words of his mouth are wicked and deceitful; he has ceased to be wise and to do good. 4 Even on his bed he plots evil; he commits himself to a sinful course and does not reject what is wrong. 5 Your love, O LORD, reaches to the heavens, your faithfulness to the skies. 6 Your righteousness is like the mighty mountains, your justice like the great deep. O LORD, you preserve both man and beast.
1 Tim 4:1-4
1 The Spirit clearly says that in later times some will abandon the faith and follow deceiving spirits and things taught by demons. 2 Such teachings come through hypocritical liars, whose consciences have been seared as with a hot iron. 3 They forbid people to marry and order them to abstain from certain foods, which God created to be received with thanksgiving by those who believe and who know the truth.
There have always been bad and wicked people in the world. Since Eve ate the fruit which God told her to avoid, people have gone against the will of God and followed after their own sinful ways. One of the tragedies of this is that sin left alone will grow exponentially and destroy the lives of those who indulge in it.
The only remedy for sin is the blood of Jesus. All of our good intentions and all of the efforts we put into getting rid of sin or even avoiding it are meaningless if we are not in Christ and have not been washed with his blood. As we study the Word of God, we form our convictions and make the rules for our lives, and we do our best to follow them, but in the end, we fail to keep them. The rules may all be right and are necessary but rules do not and cannot take away our sin.
Jesus took our sin upon himself and then he died for our guilt. He did this so that we can be counted righteous in him. As we seek to live for him, we still fail along the way but his blood continues to cleanse us so that we continue to be right with God. The law of sin and death has been nullified for those in Christ Jesus.
O Lord God I am just filled with joy and peace of mind because of what you have done for me and continue to do for me every day through Jesus Christ. My goal each day is to only do what is right and to build others up but I know that I fail in so many ways. Thank you for your continued grace in the blood of Jesus. Thank you for your Spirit who lives in me and who is working daily in me to mold me more and more into your likeness. Without his strength I know I am hopeless against the deception of Satan. I praise you in the name of Jesus.
