Daily Devotional: Psalms 41:1-6

Ps 41:1-6

1 Blessed is he who has regard for the weak; the LORD delivers him in times of trouble. 2 The LORD will protect him and preserve his life; he will bless him in the land and not surrender him to the desire of his foes. 3 The LORD will sustain him on his sickbed and restore him from his bed of illness. 4 I said, "O LORD, have mercy on me; heal me, for I have sinned against you." 5 My enemies say of me in malice, "When will he die and his name perish?" 6 Whenever one comes to see me, he speaks falsely, while his heart gathers slander; then he goes out and spreads it abroad.

Eph 1:18-21

18 I pray also that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened in order that you may know the hope to which he has called you, the riches of his glorious inheritance in the saints, 19 and his incomparably great power for us who believe. That power is like the working of his mighty strength, 20 which he exerted in Christ when he raised him from the dead and seated him at his right hand in the heavenly realms, 21 far above all rule and authority, power and dominion, and every title that can be given, not only in the present age but also in the one to come.

What a blessing it is to be able to live by faith and know that God is with us and will protect us, no matter what comes our way. He may not remove every thorn or obstacle that afflicts us but he will always provide the grace for us to endure and to come out of the storm, better off than before. He has promised to work all things for the good of those who love him. In Christ we can do all things.

While being saved by the grace of God provides salvation and makes us children of God, it does not make us any more loved by him than it does to those who have no faith and are not saved. We cannot be arrogant for that which we did not earn. We must not boast or feel superior when our salvation and our calling as his children is a gift and not from our own goodness. Thank God for his grace!

We can be filled with joy and thanksgiving. We must show his love to all of those around us. We can pursue his peace in our lives by being at peace with everyone, as much as it depends on us. We find joy as we seek to be like Jesus.

Heavenly Father it is such a joy to be your child and to know that by your grace you have forgiven me of all my sin. Give me your peace as I seek to be like Jesus in my thoughts and in my actions as I put your will first in my life. Help me to love my enemies, even as you loved me when I was your enemy. Give me a willingness to forgive, even those who refuse to admit they have done me wrong. Use me to lead these and others to you as I show them the love of Jesus in my heart and in my life. Be with your people, wherever they are in this world. In Jesus name.
