Daily Devotional: Psalms 57:1-5
Ps 57:1-5
1 Have mercy on me, O God, have mercy on me, for in you my soul takes refuge. I will take refuge in the shadow of your wings until the disaster has passed. 2 I cry out to God Most High, to God, who fulfills his purpose for me. 3 He sends from heaven and saves me, rebuking those who hotly pursue me; Selah God sends his love and his faithfulness. 4 I am in the midst of lions; I lie among ravenous beasts--men whose teeth are spears and arrows, whose tongues are sharp swords. 5 Be exalted, O God, above the heavens; let your glory be over all the earth.
John 17:24-26
24 "Father, I want those you have given me to be with me where I am, and to see my glory, the glory you have given me because you loved me before the creation of the world. 25 "Righteous Father, though the world does not know you, I know you, and they know that you have sent me. 26 I have made you known to them, and will continue to make you known in order that the love you have for me may be in them and that I myself may be in them."
Life is filled with ups and downs. Just when we think everything is going to be what we want, something happens and it all falls apart. We get fired from our job or we find out we have marriage problems or our child gets into some kind of trouble or maybe the car breaks down or the plumbing stops up or leaks. We all have problems and usually they are unexpected and come at inopportune times.
As we lift our focus from this world to the world to come, we begin to live above all the problems and heartaches of this world. We still have them and they are real but they will not have the same effect on us if they lose their importance in comparison to the eternal. In that home there will be no tears, no sickness.
But neither will there be any money or social status or different educations or professions. We will all be glorified but we will also all be humble beings in the presence of the all-mighty God. As we move closer to this eternal reality here on earth, the more we anticipate being there and the less we worry or fret over the things in this life. Our worst day here does not compare to the glory there.
O Lord God, what a glorious day it will be when with you I will live forever! Help me live in joyous hope every day, even when things fall apart in my life. Instill in me the importance of being ready for the eternal life instead of using all my energy for things that will not last but will soon be gone. Give me a pure heart that is devoted to you. Help me be more positive today instead of seeing all the things that are not what I want them to be or think they should be. Use me to help someone turn their life over to you in Jesus Christ. In his name I pray.
