Daily Devotional: Psalms 59:9-17
Ps 59:9-17
9 O my Strength, I watch for you; you, O God, are my fortress, 10 my loving God. God will go before me and will let me gloat over those who slander me. 11 But do not kill them, O Lord our shield, or my people will forget. in your might make them wander about and bring them down. 12 For the sins of their mouths, for the words of their lips, let them be caught in their pride. For the curses and lies they utter, 13 consume them in wrath, consume them till they are no more. Then it will be known to the ends of the earth that God rules over Jacob. Selah 14 They return at evening, snarling like dogs, and prowl about the city. 15 They wander about for food and howl if not satisfied. 16 But I will sing of your strength, in the morning I will sing of your love; for you are my fortress, my refuge in times of trouble. 17 O my Strength, I sing praise to you; you, O God, are my fortress, my loving God.
Rom 8:26-27
26 In the same way, the Spirit helps us in our weakness. We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us with groans that words cannot express. 27 And he who searches our hearts knows the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for the saints in accordance with God's will.
There are some terrible people in the world. Some of them live right here in my hometown and do some really terrible things. Some are just aggravating and make life difficult while others are just really bad and commit all kinds of crime and hardships on other people. These need to be caught and serve time.
There are some wonderful people in the world and some of them live right here in my neighborhood. There is an empty lot between our house and the one next door and we each mow about half of it so it stays looking pretty good. When I have had surgery or have been out of town, they almost always mow all of it. My wife has flowers on our back deck but someone always waters them when we are out of town. So I have decided to focus on the good around me, all the good people and then trust God to take care of the wicked ones. Praise the Lord!
O Lord my God what a blessing to know that there are some really good people around. Thank you for the green grass and thank you for the beautiful flowers. It is such a reminder that you are in control as I see the leaves on the trees begin to change their colors. Help me be a good neighbor and make life easier and better for those around me. Thank you for the rain that gives refreshment to the earth and for the sunshine that brightens the day for all. While so many fret about this earth and the climate and what is happening to us, I remember that Jesus is both creator and sustainer of all things so I do not worry. In his name I pray.
