Daily Devotional: Psalms 65:8-13
Ps 65:8-13
8 Those living far away fear your wonders where morning dawns and evening fades you call forth songs of joy. 9 You care for the land and water it; you enrich it abundantly. The streams of God are filled with water to provide the people with grain, for so you have ordained it. 10 You drench its furrows and level its ridges; you soften it with showers and bless its crops. 11 You crown the year with your bounty, and your carts overflow with abundance. 12 The grasslands of the desert overflow; the hills are clothed with gladness. 13 The meadows are covered with flocks and the valleys are mantled with grain; they shout for joy and sing.
1 Cor 8:5-6
5 For even if there are so-called gods, whether in heaven or on earth (as indeed there are many "gods" and many "lords"), 6 yet for us there is but one God, the Father, from whom all things came and for whom we live; and there is but one Lord, Jesus Christ, through whom all things came and through whom we live.
There are times I reflect on my life and compare myself to the apostle Paul or to the Psalmist or to one of the other great people in the Bible and feel that I am not even close to what they were spiritually. I do see myself in Peter when he spoke first and then realized he should have kept quiet. I am reminded of me when I read about him and he rebuked Jesus or looked at the waves and doubted or even when he denied that he even knew Jesus but immediately went out and wept bitterly because he knew what he had done. David, Paul and Peter were human.
But then there are times that I feel really close to God and know that he is with me and has held my hand as I went through whatever I faced. When I prayed about decisions in my life and things just fell into place so it was obvious what I should do, I thank God for answering my prayers. Every major decision, when it has been turned over to God, has either been made for me or has been made easy in the end. God is so good and is so patient and compassionate to me.
When we put our trust in God, he will never fail us or leave us. We do not see him with our physical eye or hear him with our ear but he is in our hearts and is ever speaking in our minds. His Spirit reminds us and moves us as he molds us.
Heavenly Father I am so thankful and humbled as I look at my life and realize how many times I have failed you but how you have never failed me. Thank you for your mercy and compassion as you deal with me. Instill in me a respect for you in your majesty and greatness that transcends human allegiance. Help me trust in your strength and never my own as I trust in your word and never lean on my own understanding. Be with those who are suffering because of their faith and give comfort to those who are lonely and sad. I pray in Jesus name.
