Daily Devotional: Psalms 68:7-14

Ps 68:7-14

7 When you went out before your people, O God, when you marched through the wasteland, Selah 8 the earth shook, the heavens poured down rain, before God, the one of Sinai, before God, the God of Israel. 9 You gave abundant showers, O God; you refreshed your weary inheritance. 10 Your people settled in it, and from your bounty, O God, you provided for the poor. 11 The Lord announced the word, and great was the company of those who proclaimed it: 12 "Kings and armies flee in haste; in the camps men divide the plunder. 13 Even while you sleep among the campfires, the wings of my dove are sheathed with silver, its feathers with shining gold." 14 When the Almighty scattered the kings in the land, it was like snow fallen on Zalmon.

Rom 11:33-36

33 Oh, the depth of the riches of the wisdom and knowledge of God! How unsearchable his judgments, and his paths beyond tracing out! 34 "Who has known the mind of the Lord? Or who has been his counselor?" 35 "Who has ever given to God, that God should repay him?" 36 For from him and through him and to him are all things. To him be the glory forever! Amen.

With God on our side, who can prevail against us? We live in a finite world and it is hard for us to grasp the infinite power and wisdom of God. We can not even control what happens in our house so how can we fathom God who controls all of the nations and who can control the forces of nature (as we call them). Because things happen that we do not understand and cannot explain, it is easy for us to doubt that God is really in control. But God makes or allows all things to happen.

What we also do not see is the good that can come from what we call bad or even a total disaster. We do not see the interactions of what we are doing with what is happening to others. It may be a small kind word that keeps another person going today, instead of just giving up on life. The act of kindness that helps someone may be just what they need to be inspired to help another in years to come. The strength we gained from our own temptations (and even our sin) is what carried us through that really big trial that we overcame or the one that lies ahead.

Heavenly Father it is with deep humility that I approach your throne of grace today, realizing that you are God and Supreme over all things. Yet, it is in boldness and assurance that I come to you in the name of Jesus your Son, knowing that you will hear me and answer my prayer. Give me greater faith to trust you. Fill me with your love and compassion with a willingness to forgive others. I need your wisdom to make the right decisions every day. Use me to serve others, physically and spiritually. Thank you for all you have done and do for me every day.
