Daily Devotional: Psalms 69:1-5

Ps 69:1-5

1 Save me, O God, for the waters have come up to my neck. 2 I sink in the miry depths, where there is no foothold. I have come into the deep waters; the floods engulf me. 3 I am worn out calling for help; my throat is parched. My eyes fail, looking for my God. 4 Those who hate me without reason outnumber the hairs of my head; many are my enemies without cause, those who seek to destroy me. I am forced to restore what I did not steal. 5 You know my folly, O God; my guilt is not hidden from you.

1 Peter 1:3-6

3 Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! In his great mercy he has given us new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, 4 and into an inheritance that can never perish, spoil or fade-kept in heaven for you, 5 who through faith are shielded by God's power until the coming of the salvation that is ready to be revealed in the last time. 6 In this you greatly rejoice, though now for a little while you may have had to suffer grief in all kinds of trials.

I once knew a man who had an income of over a million dollars a year and within three years, he was so broke, he had to have someone co-sign with him to get an apartment. I have seen healthy people become ill or be stricken with some disability that changed their entire lives. There have been some who seemed to have life all together when they were killed in an accident and their families were left without them. Young people get old and then they must depend on others.

We take our lives for granted. We assume if things are going well for us, things will continue to go well for us. It is in this that we become complacent in our service to the Lord. It is when things are going our way that we forget that it all comes from the hand of God and maybe, we even think we have accomplished our lives on our own. Prosperity may be the greatest challenge to our faith.

We must learn to be thankful for each blessing in our lives. We need to take time to enjoy what God has given to us, the people in our lives, the material things, and the physical health and abilities. Life is short and things do not last.

O Lord God, it is so wonderful to see all you have done for me in my life. I do enjoy the material things you have given to me, my health, my friends, and my family. These all pale in comparison to knowing you and being a part of your family in Jesus Christ. Help me never take for granted any part of my life but to always be thankful and to enjoy it for the moment. Help me face life with a positive attitude as I seek to honor you in all I do and all I say. Give me greater faith to trust you to use me where you want me to be used. In Jesus name.
