Daily Devotional: Psalms 69:13-18
Ps 69:13-18
13 But I pray to you, O LORD, in the time of your favor; in your great love, O God, answer me with your sure salvation. 14 Rescue me from the mire, do not let me sink; deliver me from those who hate me, from the deep waters. 15 Do not let the floodwaters engulf me or the depths swallow me up or the pit close its mouth over me. 16 Answer me, O LORD, out of the goodness of your love; in your great mercy turn to me. 17 Do not hide your face from your servant; answer me quickly, for I am in trouble. 18 Come near and rescue me; redeem me because of my foes.
John 17:15-19
15 My prayer is not that you take them out of the world but that you protect them from the evil one. 16 They are not of the world, even as I am not of it. 17 Sanctify them by the truth; your word is truth. 18 As you sent me into the world, I have sent them into the world. 19 For them I sanctify myself, that they too may be truly sanctified.
We all live in a world that is filled with evil and sin. We all face problems in our lives and we all have sorrow and heartaches. We have family and friends who die and leave us here alone. This is true for the most godly Christian and it is also true for the most wicked person. The rich and the poor alike live in the same world, even though they may not think so. As with the rich man and Lazarus, they both die and will both face God in the judgment. We will all meet the same fate.
The big difference is that as the children of God we can turn to him and know that he will hear us and he will take care of us. When we are weak, he will give us the power of his Spirit in us. When we are tempted, he will limit our temptation and he will provide a way out of it for us. When we face death, either our own or those we love, we face it with hope and assurance that all is well in Jesus.
The salvation of God is sure. In Christ, we are free from the law of sin and death (the law that says the wages of sin is death). In him our sins are forgiven and as we continue to live for him, they continue to be washed away by his blood. So as long as we continue to walk in his light, we know we have eternal life in him.
O Lord God it is such a blessing to know that my sins are forgiven and that even when I mess up, you will not give up on me but will continue to forgive me. Keep me from ever taking sin lightly and in so doing, turning your grace into a license to continue in sin. Lord, help me honestly look at myself, into my heart and into my life and measure it by your word and turn from all wrong and imitate your virtue and goodness. Keep me from judging others in their shortcomings. Use me where you want me to be used and in your way. I pray in the name of Jesus.
