Daily Devotional: Psalms 77:10-20
Ps 77:10-20
10 Then I thought, "To this I will appeal: the years of the right hand of the Most High." 11 I will remember the deeds of the LORD; yes, I will remember your miracles of long ago. 12 I will meditate on all your works and consider all your mighty deeds. 13 Your ways, O God, are holy. What god is so great as our God? 14 You are the God who performs miracles; you display your power among the peoples. 15 With your mighty arm you redeemed your people, the descendants of Jacob and Joseph. Selah 16 The waters saw you, O God, the waters saw you and writhed; the very depths were convulsed. 17 The clouds poured down water, the skies resounded with thunder; your arrows flashed back and forth. 18 Your thunder was heard in the whirlwind, your lightning lit up the world; the earth trembled and quaked. 19 Your path led through the sea, your way through the mighty waters, though your footprints were not seen. 20 You led your people like a flock by the hand of Moses and Aaron.
It is so easy to forget what the Lord has done for us. We accept his blessings and then over the years we begin to take them for granted and expect them to continue. We pray for healing of our bodies, our minds, or our relationships and the healing comes or the burdens are lifted, and then we forget it was ever there or what God did for us (or even worse, we never thank him for doing it).
On occasion, my wife and I will reminisce about how things were when we first got married. We lived in a trailer that was smaller than our living room is today, we had no telephone, did not take any newspapers or magazines. We both were working and I was going to school full time and barely made ends meet. We were young, in love and very happy but hoped to one day have more in life.
Our lives have since been “normal” and we have certainly been blessed. We have had fifty-three years together and we have had our share of sickness, sorrow, loss, troubles, and heartaches but coupled with abundant blessings beyond what words can express. We have seen the hand of God leading us and providing for us and we give him thanks every day for this. He has blessed us with friends and family, literally all over the world. What a joy to serve the one and only true God!
Heavenly Father, never let me forget where I have been and where you have brought me in life. Remind me that all I have is from your hand and by your grace. Thank you for your love shown to me in so many ways and all you do for me every day of my life. Help me keep my eyes focused on you and on things above and empower me with your Spirit to do your will in all things. Use me and what you have given to me to help others as they face their trials. Give your healing and peace to those who are sick and hurting today. I pray in Jesus name.
