Daily Devotional: Psalms 79:1-7
Ps 79:1-7
1 O God, the nations have invaded your inheritance; they have defiled your holy temple, they have reduced Jerusalem to rubble. 2 They have given the dead bodies of your servants as food to the birds of the air, the flesh of your saints to the beasts of the earth. 3 They have poured out blood like water all around Jerusalem, and there is no one to bury the dead. 4 We are objects of reproach to our neighbors, of scorn and derision to those around us. 5 How long, O LORD? Will you be angry forever? How long will your jealousy burn like fire? 6 Pour out your wrath on the nations that do not acknowledge you, on the kingdoms that do not call on your name; 7 for they have devoured Jacob and destroyed his homeland.
Rev 7:9-12
9 After this I looked and there before me was a great multitude that no one could count, from every nation, tribe, people and language, standing before the throne and in front of the Lamb. They were wearing white robes and were holding palm branches in their hands. 10 And they cried out in a loud voice: "Salvation belongs to our God, who sits on the throne, and to the Lamb." 11 All the angels were standing around the throne and around the elders and the four living creatures. They fell down on their faces before the throne and worshiped God, 12 saying: "Amen! Praise and glory and wisdom and thanks and honor and power and strength be to our God for ever and ever. Amen!"
From the time of Cain, there have been those who opposed and even persecuted God’s people. The devil will never allow anyone to serve God without some effort on his part to pull them away. But we must remember that even though we may not see God working or protecting us, he is always watching and he always cares about his own. The devil only does what God allows him to do to us.
"Salvation belongs to our God.” This is true with our physical salvation from the problems and trials that we face in life and it is true with eternal salvation from hell. As we focus our eyes on Jesus, we can rest easy at night and we can use our energy to serve him as we serve others in the daytime. And this salvation is for people from every nation, tribe and language, wherever they are.
O Lord God, creator and giver of life, it is such a blessing to serve a God that loves me and knows just what I need but also how much I can bear at any time. Help me use each burden, each trial and each problem to increase my faith and to make me a better person. As I open my heart to your Spirit, fill me with your love and your kindness so that others see Jesus living in me. Give me self-control to do the things that I need to do and to stay away from things that would hinder me in my service to you. Use me to help others look to you. In Jesus name.
